I just put together my PC this weekend with a buddy's help and it was running great until I decided to move my hard drives around to try and fit a new CPU cooler inside. I couldn't get it to work out so I put everything back to how it was before but now my monitor is now being recognized, it won't display anything.

All my fans are running and everything seems to have power that I can see. The only things I messed with was the hdd and ssd cables and the heat sink. I can't figure out why that would have messed up my display. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

there's a socket by the cpu(could be 4 or 6 pin depending on mobo) you might have unplugged while messing with the heat sink that would make it show no video

Make sure you've connected your monitor cable to your GPU instead of your mobo.

If not the case, you might have bumped/damaged your GPU in the process. Try re-seating it.
If that doesn't do anything, try to use your integrated graphics (assuming you have one) instead of your GPU. To do that, you take out your GPU and connect your monitor to your mobo.

To reduce our need to shoot in the dark, post your parts.

I went through and double checked all my cables and it worked I guess something got loose in the process.

What is the benefit of plugging in the monitor cable to the gpu instead of the MoBo though?

Depending on your GPU and you CPU, the difference is usually the GPU is a LOT more powerful than the IGP (Integrated Grfx Part) in your CPU.

When you plug the monitor into the motherboard, you are using the IGP of the CPU to drive your monitor. Some motherboards also have a very weak onboard video chip, which would also be much wimpier than the GPU.

Short version, always drive your monitor(s) from the GPU and not from the motherboard.

This is a general answer, since we don't know what hardware your actually have....if you want more info, we will need to know what hardware you have.

Get SPECCY here: http://www.piriform.com/speccy/download ...get the FREE version from the: Piriform Link ...Speccy is a really nice system hardware/temperature, information Utility....simply install it...and run the program...then post a screen shot of the main page of the program, when posting a problem/question on these forums.

If you plug it to your mobo while you have GPU plugged in, you will not receive any signal in almost all cases.
