So I asked my friend to build a computer for me, and this is the list he came up with:

Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 So.1150 Dual

Processor - Intel Core i5 4460

SSD - Samsung 850 Evo 250GB

Graphics card - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 TI

2x4GB ram 1600mhz

I have a cabinet but I'm not sure it's very good and it only has 1 fan, we talked about maybe buying 2 more fans.

Power supply Corsair CX600 600w

D-Link AirPlus XtremeG DWL-G520 networks card

This totalled around $1100, where I use my old cabinet, ram, power supply and networks card.

Is the graphics card too overkill? Is it worth getting for the price it's going for atm, or should I just go with an older version?

that card is way overkill for 99% of games that are out right now the 970 is 300$ cheaper and will crush just about any game out there with a decent cpu alongside it. what psu did your old comp have? i would suggest getting a new one decent ones are between 50-100$ easy and it's worth the investment to protect your shit if your old psu blows who knows what it might take with it

Games I play is mainly Archeage, and then LoL, Heroes of the Storm, Blade & Soul (when it comes out)

Oh i figured you were working with something old cuz you said 'old comp' lol but yea that psu will work great, again for the card though i wouldn't go the 980ti you could buy a 970 for around 350$ right now that's not much worse then 2-3 years down the road spend another 300$ on another card that would be way better than the 980ti is now and you would be spending about the same amount just figured i'd throw that out there cuz that's how i usually do it
