Considering either upgrading my current build or just making a new build all together, I built my current one back in 2011.

Was thinking of adding a new graphics(GTX 960 or possibly 970?) card and SSD (250GB 850 EVO?).

Or should I just scrap it and start from scratch with a new mobo and processor.

Motherboard - Gigabyte model# Z68XP-UD3P
Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz
CPU Fan - Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus - CPU Cooler
Memory - CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Graphics Card - AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
HD - 1TB HDD
Case - Corsair 650D

Thanks!

Wait until Aug/Sep when Skylake comes out and make a new build. You can add a new GPU for now. That would be a solid upgrade. If you've never used an SSD before, don't bother getting one just yet. Save your money for real upgrades (like Skylake!).

2500k's are starting to become bottlenecks. Skylake would be a worth upgrade. Depending on what he plays, he may benefit from a new CPU.

Also, "buy" Windows 10.

agreed. 2500k is still a good processor compared to current ones. dont waste your money, just upgrade graphics card if needed. in 3-5 years you can buy a new rig with all the money you saved

Word thanks everyone, that's what I was thinking.

Would it be worth it to grab a SSD or just stick with 1 HDD?

And opinions on GTX 960 vs 970?

does it mean skylake is pretty bad compared to i7 processors

"The maximum CPU frequency with Turbo Boost is 4.2GHz which is some 200 MHz slower than the Core i7 4790K processor"
