What I'm looking For: Speed. I want a decent processor, ram (so, 8-12?), is SSD an option? Something that is just a fast operating. Don't care about gaming. Does not need an insane graphics card. I only want to use it for listening to music (So, decent speakers?), and watch movies/browse the net. The screen could be a decent size, but not 17 or whatever. 1080p hopefully. At least 1 TB hd would be cool. And a blu-ray player would be sweet.

My budget is about 1k. But willing to consider all options.

*** ALSO, I am randomly looking to buy an external HD for storing music/movies. Looking for at least 1 TB and very very reliable. Because I will be pissed if it ever goes bad. Thanks so much guys!

I dont have any suggestions but i can tell you that to do that you do not need a decent processor nor do you need anything more than 4gb of ram. [although if you spend 1k probably everything will have 8gb]
I'm not telling you what to get, I'm just trying to let you know not to be too picky if it fits a lot of your criteria, but say... doesn't have 8-12gb of ram or isn't an i7.

Any modern dual core processor or higher is going to fit your needs just fine

Do have an SSD or put in your own. A lot of 17 inchers have 2 drive bays, so you could have a 1tb hdd and an ssd. may want to keep an eye out for that feature.
Other than that, limit the software you put on your laptop. Within the past 5 years the only thing that makes a laptop run slow, is user-abuse, not bad hardware

Does anyone know what the best deal for a surface or surface pro would be. Like best overall deal based on
what you get for the price.
