My Build in 20 minutes:

It's been a while (years) since I've looked at PC parts...

Notes:

I'm unsure of motherboard, I think Z87 is overkill?
Can I increase the CAS to 10 and go with 2133mhz+ RAM? Better the CPU the less CAS matters correct?
I assume I can't go with a big air cool fan like Noctua due to the high profile ram with the heat spreaders
Will the H105 or H110 fit inside the current selected case? Feel free to change the case :)
Would like at least 8GB of RAM
Around 23 inches of monitor
750 watt might be overkill, can drop down to 650?

Thank you for reading, I look forward to your builds!

Tweaked the build a bit. Different board, cooler, and PSU (750W is more than you need, and the 650W unit is $20 cheaper). Got it under $1200 after rebates.

Get evo 212, no need to overspend on water cooler or noctua if Ur friend isn't trying to beat a record ocing. Evo 212 cools better than 105 anyways.
Get a z97 board for that cpu gigabyte ud3h+bk or sth
Get 970 strix gpu
550 rm seasonic psu

Heres my modification.

I included a really expensive case on the premise that if you are spending X amount, you want something nice and spacious. Your old case couldnt fit the hyper 212, so at the very least you needed something wider.

750 watts is a little overkill, but its the same price as a competitive 650 watt right now, so might as well keep it.
RAM speed doesnt matter for gaming. even DDR 4 ram at 3000 or whatever mhz has shown no difference over DDR3 ram.

*Increased size of case to get the hyper 212
*Changed mobo to z97
*Lowered wattage to 650 still Gold certified

Question: He will be using his TV temporarily, it's 120Hz. His Tv only supports HDMI. Does he need to get a Dual Link DVI and a DVI to HDMI converter to go into his TV to get benefit from the 120Hz? Or Will the converter defeat the purpose of the dual link dvi benefit?
