My new laptop has just arrived and I've installed windows 7 and all of the drivers supplied by the retailer. My issue is that 3 of the devices in device manager have yellow exclamation marks: Ethernet Controller, Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller and Unknown device, all of which are under Other devices and none of which have any information on properties other than error code 28.

I've tried searching for drivers but windows can't find anything. I'm connected to my wireless routers with five bars and no warnings but I can't get anything to load on internet explorer. Can anyone help?

Update: Just restarted the laptop, and the internet is working now. The three devices are still yellow though.

What kind of laptop, as depending on where those are connected it's a problem with the drivers with the device you may need to install new drivers, or depending on how old the laptop is possibly roll back to the old drivers if the new ones are wrong, I'd also disconnect everything from the laptop re-start it and check to see if the errors are gone, most of the time these can be ignored but I know it's a pain

e// google your laptop to see if it happens with them as I'm not sure which manufacturer you purchased it from

It's actually a custom-made laptop, i think the brand name was EXS. Update anyway: the laptop is taking about 20 seconds to shut down, i dont think thats normal for an quad core i7 and SSD...also, just now the internet was working fine, i was downloading a game off of the steam client and i unplugged the power cable and mouse to go and sit on the sofa and the internet immediately dropped...

Which company made it for you? Also that is normal for all computers depending on what's open if you have internet tabs etc, even if you own the best of the best it won't do everything that you want always so quickly, I'm guessing it's wireless internet? There' definitely seems to problems with at least the wireless drivers, and if you can't get the recent drivers for it from, as I'm guessing this is incorporated into the Mobo your next step would be to contact the company directly. Also for next time asking help in this area post in Misc Computer Help as most of the experts probably missed your post due to it being posted in this area.

Thanks for the help. I think I've sorted out all the problems now.

One more thing, the laptop I had previously seems to load webpages faster than this one, even though this new one is much higher spec. Are there any settings that I could have changed on my old one to make it load pages faster?

was your previous one connected to internet wireless or wired, wireless internet will always be slower than wired, its more likely due to internet connection instead of specs
