So I looked this up and basically they looked similar in benchmark utilities. basically I have the athlon, with the unlocked 4th core. It is not one of the ones with l3 cache.

I would expect the access to a newer motherboard, ddr3 ram (though only 1333 max) would cause light game and streaming performance to increase.

this computer will get used for streaming dark souls 1, which is the most intensive thing the pc will do. Will the i3 530 build make much difference?

is buying something more current a possibility? if youre streaming, an fx6300 is a cheap alternative. its usually cheaper than the current i3

I personally use an 8320 and always set people up with 6300's in budget builds(unless another better deal is up).

This is a computer i've been piecing together for my brother and he's not looking to put much money into it, just a low end machine that can play dark souls and stream.

The only reason this i3 in particular is in question is i just helped another friend build a 6300 build and he needs a monitor so i was gonna give him my old monitor for his old parts if they were worth using.

i think both will do poorly while streaming, but you can utilize the two cpus together.
