ok guys i have an old slow PC and i would like to upgrade

I have never built a PC before so im thinking it would be easier to buy one already put together but i am open to suggestions

Budget-700-800ish dollars(I will be buying a new Monitor as well and probably a mouse but this will not be included in budget, but also taking suggestions on monitor size, etc)

Current monitor is like 19 inch its to small, had a 22 inch ZT one before that bugged out on me, would like to find a nice 24 inch maybe

this is my current computers specs

ZT system AMD athlon 64X2 dual core processor 5400 2.8 GHZ
6144 mb of RAM
ATI radeon 3100 graphics

I'm not a hardcore gamer, currently use it to play runescape(which it lags horribly on) but i would like to play some of the new PC games comfortably(new skyrim, d3, etc)
otherwise i just browse the internet and use it for music and such

Do you guys think 700-800$ will get me a nice computer that will be a significant improvement over my current setup?

also right now i am using an external alfa wireless USB drive for internet, i will not have access to ethernet in my house, so not sure if an internal wireless chip would be better. My current USB only gives me 10mb download speed when i have 50mb with my internet service provider.

Thanks for the help and feel free to say if i need to provide any more information

Edit: I would also like to get a new desk, mine is to small )Especially the part where you put the keyboard and mouse) if anybody knows somewhere that features cool desks please let me know!

$795 before rebates but $710 after. The monitor isn't included in this price because you said it wouldn't be included in your budget. Also, just pick a mouse you like.

Add about $100 if you want to get an i5 4690k instead of an FX-8320.
You could get a 290x for about $40-50 more, but it isn't necessary for any of the games you listed (D3, Skyrim). You could add $100 to get a GTX 970 instead.
Finally, add $100 for a 200GB SSD if you want to.

Any of the above 3 options will put you at the top of your budget.

Yes it would be better, just not with that budget. For that budget would go with the AMD and use the money towards graphics.
the 290 is about as powerful as 970.

if you want to spend the extra 100 dollars for the 3-10 extra frames, you can, but i'd advise against it if you are on limited budget.

Intel i5 version with an additional 128GB SSD for OS, programs and your favorite game(s).
H97 LGA1150 mainboard comes with USB3.0 (as does the case) and provides a better upgradeablity (towards next gen CPUs) than AMD.
Unless you do a lot of rendering/editing, the Intel i5-4460 will be faster than FX-8320 in basically everything while running cooler & more quietly.

+ at that budget stay @AMD R9 290.
+ I assume you already have a random optcal drive lying around at home or built into your current PC.
