Hi everyone! I've been lurking for a bit and thought that this would be a great place to get resources in building a computer. I have never built one but always desired to do so. Any direction with this would be great. I hope to make purchases for parts by Wednesday, Feb 4th.

PC Builds

- Budget: ~500 (I would like to have my net be around $500; so if it costs me like $700 up front but there is $200 in rebates, I would be down for this).
- Zip Code or Location: PA, USA
- Specific Use: Gaming (Diablo 3 and League of Legends)
- Any preferred components?: Nope
- Any spare parts you can re-use?: Nope
- Overclocking your processor?: Not sure what this is. I don't want to ruin anything :(
- Need an Operating System?: Would like Windows 7 64 bit but if a newer Windows is better, I'm willing to try.
- Need a Monitor? / Mouse? / Keyboard?: Nope
- Need a Wireless Card or Adapter? Nope
- Need Another Component? (Specify): Nope

For a case, do you know if there are cases that are easily transportable? Like if i wanted to take it over to my friend's house, is there a case that isn't a monstrosity in size & weight? hahaha.

Thanks in advance!

What part of PA? specifically, do you live near Philly for the Microcenter?

Funion may be able to come up with something a little better though. If you could somehow get Windows "elsewhere", you could get a GTX 960 instead of a 750ti.

Would it be good to get an SSD? I know currently when i play diablo 3, the load times are extravagant. My friends state that an SSD would increase the load times.

An SSD will decrease loading time not just for games, but for everything.
However not at that budget. SSD's are very expensive, almost $110 for just 240gb. vs 60 bucks for a 1 tb 7200 rpm HDD.
Loading times are a mixture of your HDD and processor though, so if you have a slow computer in general, load times will get better, and 7200 RPM HDD are really capable.
In short, I wouldn't get the SSD until later in your life where you can sweat the cost. More powerful graphics/processor are definitely bigger priority.

Thanks for the info Rapture! I'll keep that in mind. I don't particular use a lot of storage space on my current hard drive (no movies or mp3s) so I was thinking that 240 gb would be enough for me if I were to get one.

Hi! I've received the parts in the mail and I started to put things together. As I was following the guide that Ghot posted, there was a section to test to see if it would boot. The items comprises of the motherboard, cpu, ram, video card and power supply. I clicked on the two pronged power starter and the fans turn but nothing is coming up on my monitor. Do you know what the problem may be? I'm using the pieces in the pcpicker link that Funion is linked. Thank you!
