This is what I was looking at getting. The case, mobo, and psu I already bought a while ago, but I was looking more recently and found some worrying stuff about unknown makers of psu's.

I'll buy within the next few days, probably. going to use it for games/photoshop/mathematica and whatever else I need for school. no plans of overclocking. 55812 zipcode.

hate to tell you the bad news, but the things you purchased are crap...
the mobo is bad, the psu is not even certified, and you're right to be worried. I wouldn't use that PSU in any build, even if given for free.
at an up to $850 budget, i'd go with fx series over i7 as well since going i7 won't let you get 970 in that budget. Alternatively, you could prolly get i5 and lose the SSD and downgrade other things if needed.
