Yes / No?

Is it a particularly bad idea to mix n match brands of memory, or does it not matter?

Current PC (at home; don't have the specs in front of me) has 1x 8GB stick of DDR3. Wondering if there's any downside to ordering a single stick of memory, instead of 2x.

This is a casual, d!cking around online PC, not a gaming rig, so I don't need top-shelf everything on it. Thanks in advance for your advice. :)

no!

also even gaming rigs rarely use more then 8gb f ram
downside to 1 stick vs two is that your mobo support dual channel and will nto use it.

Not recommended but it could work.

I even messed around on my old build with 1x2gb and 2x 1gb for 3 sticks / 4 gigs.

95% of the time, it works just fine. Just make sure to clock them the same / etc.

Occasionally you will run into issues with it, BSOD / Errors / Sometimes it can cause a no-post (Had this happen to me till i forced all the dram slots on)

Don't do it....if you want say 8GB of RAM...get a matched set like 2x 4GB.
