Hi guys, looking to pick up a laptop for school.

Hence it needs to be able to run stuff like powerpoint, word etc. And of course the internet without lagging / freezing!!

I may also stream the odd show/movie on it, and my last laptop sucked with this aspect because apparently the processor wasn't sufficient enough ?

Anyways, 300$ to throw around. Who can be the best help ever and direct me to the best laptop I can get for anywhere up to that ?
.. If there's one that is just head and shoulders better than the rest for a little over 300, i may strongly consider that too

fake edit/ This will not be used for gaming :)

Thanks! -- Can pay fg for gg responses

If you want, you can get a Chromebook. They start about $250. You can install MS Office on Chrome OS.

do u have to pay for word and PP etc. ?

Im liking the Chromebook 11.
7 hours battery life -- others seem to have ~8
2x usb ports AND hdmi port == this is an attractive feature indeed.
Strong casing and a comfortable key board = good for student
for just 279$

Im a real noob with computer shit tho.. I read another has 2 GB RAM..

What is a desirable amount of ram, and what exactly is this for?

What about a processor? Apparently the last laptop had a shitty processor which caused it to stream stuff poorly and often lag / freeze on tasks that would be simple on another laptop.

If it has the microsoft office programs such as PP & Word already on it that would be a bonus.. But if it's going to be free to install that's fine too

Things I'm really after

I want a sturdyish laptop with a comfortable keyboard. << preference, not a necessity
A screen that isn't too small (12" - 18") << Strong preference, between 12-18 is necessity
A good degree of brightness. -- seen some have shitty reviews for this
Battery life isn't a big issue as long as it's 2+ (spare battery is always an easy option), but the longer the better.
The light up keyboard is a gg extra too.
A good degree of sound quality is always a bonus.
And I'm not sure on the technical stuff, but I want enough RAM and a decent enough processor to run student programs such as PP, & Word etc. - having them alrdy installed is a bonus, but no hassle to install as long as they come free.
I want the performance of my laptop to be better than my last, because my last one would freeze up / lag if it was streaming or doing simple tasks.
I will want to stream the odd movie.
A hdmi port + USB ports are gg too

$300ish to spend
