I've got a motherboard that can use ddr2 ram, I'm wanting one that can use ddr3, what should I know about purchasing a motherboard?

Depends what kind/how many PCI slots you need, how many SATA ports you need, if you're going to overclock (not all boards can handle overclocking), etc.
