I've been out of the hardware loop for a few years now and I'm hoping you kind folks can help! I'm looking at upgrading an existing machine (just video card I think) and building a budget gaming machine, preferably under $600 but can possibly go higher depending on the upgrade machine. That one has priority though, I use it for work AND play.
First and foremost, I need a video card for my main desktop. Needs to be able to support dual monitors and capable of at least light gaming (D3, WoW on lower settings capable). Here's some of what Speccy has to say about it:
Quote
CPU:
AMD Athlon II X4 640 26 °C
Propus 45nm Technology
RAM:
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard:
MSI 880GM-E41 (MS-7623) (CPU1) 36 °C
Graphics:
I tried a few leftovers from the pile at work, but they're all crap so I'm running with the onboard graphics.
X203H (1600x900@60Hz) <-Couldn't handle slender man when the kids tried it
Let me know if more detail is needed. This one needs to be able to support dual-monitors, as it's also my work-from-home machine.
For the new machine I'm looking for the best bang for my buck. For the most part, it's going to be used by the kids.

Budget: ~$600, but the cheaper the better!!
More specific use: Light gaming, anything available through Steam. Does not need high end.
Planned time until purchase: Shit...I'm ready right now if the price is right
Do you need an Operating System?: We'll say yes for price comparisons, but I don't think so.
Do you have any specific preferred components?: I'm an AMD fan, but flexible.
Do you need a sound or wireless card?: nope, I'm good with on board sound
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: no OC
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: Nope
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): 05701
Thanks for looking!!
