looking to buy an i7 processor, dont really care for the integrated graphics that it comes with.
im wondering what is the best value for buck?

i will not overclock
i only play games (all kinds of games, i want to future proof for games)

i use a program called inventor for school but regardless its one of those design programs that create 3d models.

im not looking for anything specific but i think any i7 would make me happy, since i currently use an i5.
no "K" versions pls cuz i dont overclock.

really? so just get the cheapest i7 for standard gaming?

i7 isn't really needed for gaming even for a while, GPU will carry most of that for you!

yea i already have a beast graphics card, its just.... well...

my current mobo has ram slot 2 broken. since ram slot 2 is broken, it will not read that slot and all of the corresponding ram slots. therefore ramslot 2. 3 and 4 do not read.
im basically going to trash this mobo and get a new one...
however the problem is that... my mobo is 1156 slot. all the new mobos take 1150...
so i have to scrap my current processor. so basically im thinking of future proofing my computer, i mean might as well right?

i5 is plenty future proofing
u will upgrade to ddr4 before u need an i7

yea i know, but i only run on 2 gigs of ram. do you suggest that buying a 1 stick of 8 gig ram is the best choice for me atm? i'll stay with my i5 750 and defected mobo?

I really wouldn't suggest using 1x 8 Gb stick

I would probably just replace the mobo with an 1150 socket and i5-4690k and you'll be solid for a couple years. The new gen i5 has quite a bit more power anyways so its a win/win.

And I understand you may not want to overclock but the price difference isn't that big and it kinda gives you a little more power down the road if need arises.

But that's just me let's see what other people think!

i5 4690 - 230 dollars
i5 4690k - 260 dollars
i7 4970 - 330 dollars
i7 4970k - 360 dollars

well thats how much it costs in my city. so basically i'd be saving 100 bucks if i go this route.

the arguements here are -
i wont need an i7 for gaming in general cuz the graphics card will usually take care of that
by the time i need to upgrade to i7, ddr4 will be out.
hmm i guess for the "nice" feature of paying 100 bucks im basically paying this price for fancyness is what you guys are saying lol

Pretty much, its worth the extra 30 bucks for the k version, i7 won't have much of an advantage at all for the things you do. Use the extra 100 for a better cooler than the one that comes stock if you are ever in need of a little extra umph just overclock the i5.
