Looking to build a pc that will mainly be used for photoshop. Budget is around $800-$1,000, maybe a little more if absolutely necessary.

Currently have peripherals (monitor, mouse, keyboard). Want to run Windows 7. Will need to buy OS as well.

Going to play any games on it at all or is it purely for photoshop?

/e
Also, are you going to be making Large Print Posters or using 3d Modeling or 3d Typography?

purely photoshop, no gaming. It's not for me, it's for my mom :P

and no, no large print posters or 3d printing, it will only be used for editing on the computer.

/edit: also I am only looking at intel either i5 or i7 cpu. I do not want an AMD.

Can handle video editing and advanced photo editing. You'll need to add more RAM later if your mother wants to step into 3d Modeling and Typography.

Only parts of Photoshop are threading and will support Hyperthreading. That being said, an i7 can benefit Photoshop use, but it most likely isn't necessary.

The above system is able to overclock down the road if it becomes necessary.

Also, you don't even need that high of a graphics card if its just basic photo editing. You could drop it to a 750ti or lower if necessary. You don't need to spend $1000.

cool. I really appreciate it. A couple of questions.

Would more ram up front be beneficial? From a little bit of reading I did people were saying 16gb is like the minimum for PS.
Would it be beneficial to add an ssd? If so, would it be better to put the OS or photoshop itself onto the SSD?

You could definitely add the 16GB up front to prevent any future issues.

Put the OS and PS on the SSD but save all the actual projects on the HDD.

Changed the PSU.

won't need a gpu if it's straight up editing photos, can just get one when it's even cheaper in years to come.
won't need 16gb of ram, maybe if ur mom is planning to use 3-6 monitors and multitask 9000apm.. with 12 pairs of eyes.. even tho its impossible for a human .. so 8gb is more than enough
add HDD if she keeps a ton of photos and files, otherwise just stick with an SSD.
id suggest you get win 8.1 over 7 cos u get free up to 10 when it's out, but i put 7 anyways not gonna try to convince

depending on the program she uses, a gpu may potentially be beneficial. ie photoshop CS6
the amount of monitors used and the amount of ram have no correlation. ram should be determined by the size of each project.
projects will fill a 250gb ssd quick unless they have another storage solution.

the reason why i said multiple monitor is just to exaggerate how much she can see at once without overlapping each other to insanely multi task with a lot of apps open.
and ya, like i said if it's not simple tasks like photo edits, i dun think she'll need a gpu cos the hd4600 is supported by ps.
could always get a 260x or osmething if needed
