I would really appreciate some in depth advice on computer builds and how to go about choosing parts. I have a budget of $1,500-$2,000 but would be nice to stay under $1,750.

Budget: 1500-2000
More specific use (what games, what programs): right now I don't play any games specifically, but looking at getting back into gaming and would want something that is capable of easily running any game.
Planned time until purchase: sooner rather than later, no later than cyber monday
Do you need an Operating System?: yes
Do you have any specific preferred components?: no, looking at i7 4790k so far..
Do you need a sound or wireless card?:
Do you want stock cooling or do you plan on overclocking?: stock should suffice
Do you need a monitor? mouse? keyboard?: don't need but would be open to purchasing new ones.
Zip code/location? (Shipping costs): 77007

Also would appreciate the aspect of a quiet computer

Help is very much appreciated! Thanks!

Went with air cooling since it's a solid cooler and you don't really plan on overclocking.

great builds. to accommodate for a quieter pc, youll want less physically moving parts, such as hdd, and a case with vibration dampening.

i suggest these parts or types of components:
great quiet case for the price http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/fractal-design-case-fdcadefr4bl
take out the hdd and get a bigger ssd. might be impractical to some people. http://www.ncix.com/detail/samsung-840-evo-series-mz-7te500bw-fa-87762-1242.htm
without breaking the bank for a quality quiet power supply http://www.ncix.com/detail/seasonic-platinum-660-660w-atx-12v-3d-77826.htm

your budget is too much for what you're looking to do.
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/YswGVn -- $1,200ish

tell us your current mouse/monitor/keyboard and we can make some recommendations if you really are looking to get new ones :)
also, we definitely need to know if you have a 1080p monitor or better as that will decide the upgrade.

feel free to add your network speed as well. if it's slow you would benefit from a gsync 1080p monitor.

reason for cooler -- quietness
reason for psu -- quietness
reason for gfx card -- it's awesome, fan doens't spin @ idle
reason for case -- sound dampening foam stuff on the inside panels ;)

i did not include a hard drive as you may want to just get a larger one, or add another one and have 2 of them... wouldn't make much sense with your budget to even have an hard drive unless you have 100+ gb of movies/music/tv shows/ms office documents on your computer

Thanks for the replies, silence is somewhat important, but if it means giving up some performance for quiet, I would prefer better performance.

also, do you need 1080p/1440p/4k/5k res?
do you need more than 1 monitor?
do you play/will you play FPS games?

I would prefer more than one monitor, and prefer the highest res I can play comfortably with that build. Yes I play fps
