Salutations,

I have been lurking around these forums and the WoW Games/Gaming/Hardware forums for a few weeks, trying to learn about what I need.

My goals:

- Play WoW on ultra with great fps (in town, raids, bg's, etc).
- Great multitasking (WoW on one monitor and movies/streaming on another (to include watching others stream and possibly myself streaming))
- Fast converting (I convert many movies/shows from .avi/.mkv/etc to .mp4 to watch on my iPhone)
- Basic web browsing
- Photoshop
- Possible video processing, if I stream/make videos

I currently do all of the above, not at the same time, on my wife's iMac (Core i5-2400s @ 2.5Ghz, Radeon HD 6750M - 512MB, 4GB 1333 MHz ram). Playing WoW on this computer gets me 30fps in raids and 20fps in towns... on the lowest settings possible. If playing WoW, the computer cannot do anything else, it lags way too hard.

From what I have learned so far, Intel/Nvidia is the best setup for WoW; but I am still unsure what level CPU/Vid card I need for my interests. I am looking to buy in the next couple of weeks, can do pre-built or assemble myself (been a few years since I last built one), and trying to keep it under $1K.... ideally, $700-800 would be pimp. Please leave advice on what I need to look for (4, 6, 8 cores? MHz>cores? 8, 16, 32 GB ram? etc etc)

Thanks!!

Iirc, based on last year, the majority of better sales are 1-2weeks prior to cyber monday, oddly enough. So I'd just keep an eye out for the next few weeks. I think the FX 8320 was $119 online like 3weeks before cyber monday and only $139 for actual cyber monday.

I have no problem waiting. I will be out of town Thanksgiving week anyways, so buying before/after is perfectly fine.

What level CPU/Vid card should I be looking at though? How much RAM would I need for my requirements?

for ram, 8gb is plenty.
cpu nowadays are GG, so intel 4670k, 4690k, or fx 8320e, 6300 any of those will do GFG justic
vid card, 970 would be the best thing to purchase in terms of price/perf.
otherwise anything around 270x/760+ will be fine too
