Hi there.

Is there anyone who has built or owns a PC with more than 1 gpu :baby:
My idea was to fuse my 2 old pc's. I dont want to use it while gaming, it would be more like a workstation.

My questions are kinda simple :

Is it worth it to use 2x GPU in 1 system? (they are older, like rtx 2060) or is it better to just turn on a second pc?
Do i need special software, or can this just be plugged in like a normal custom pc and started via Win11pro / Linux?

Some production software supports multi gpu but not all of them

But yes the ones that do will benefit from the 2nd card.

Look into Lossless Scaling, watch some YouTube videos and decide if it's for you, it's a few bucks on Steam.

No sry, i dont set a focus on gaming. my focus is on software that are supporting multi-gpu - most of them in graphic rendering
e: its not a project to build a stronger pc with old parts, its more a project to use more than 1 gpu in 1 machine and on 1 OS / spliting it on software or vmware

Yeah i allready know that, i just wanted to know if i need another OS or if its more complicated than it sounds.
My concern is, that i buy a new motherboard and then fuse the 2 pc's and the gpu's crash each other.

I'm pretty sure i know what i will be doing, but i have no experience in doing it, so maybe someone reads through my post and is like "yeah.. BUT did you know that ... etc"

Lossless Scaling can help with more than gaming, mostly streaming and video related.

Two GPUs are great for VM's or other specific software, it's not clear to me as to what you're doing specifically so it's hard to say for sure.

Well it's hard to tell. Most of the usage will be VMwares with GPU passthrough for some gametesting, the other usage would be UnrealEngine5 (using 1 gpu for 1 process, second gpu for second process and maybe third for "normal" graphic rendering or creation via KI)
I need real "power", not just screen scaling like lossless scaling, so my tasks don't take forever
And no, buying a blackwell 6000 pro is not an option for me sadly.

Hey cheers for that, so the RTX 2060 and GTX 1060 doesn't support SLI, what you can do is pick your 2060 to be the main graphic card and could use "hyper v built in windows system" as a virtual environment for either windows or linux and use the 1060 for that.

just google Hyper V. :)

This was the main idea. I dont wanna use SLI. I will use Linux as hosting OS and install a Win10 VMware there wich supports GPU-passthrough and i will try to use 1 graphic card only with the VM.
So i can use the Linux "host" for easy tasks, and all graphic tasks on a Win10 VM, wich allows me to just install my software wich im used to. i am a Linux noob tho :(
I will try to set it up like this. If someone here reading through knows better, pls give me hints :)

THX for all the input, also to the guys PMing me.
