So, I build this computer about 3 years ago and it worked fine.

it was a AMD Ryzen 5 3600G initially, then I added a graphics card RX 6600 XT and it was fine, later I changed the CPU to Ryzen 5 5600 and it worked well too. Other parts that have not changed are PSU evga 600BQ, Motherboard 450 Steel Legend (had to do bios when I changed the CPU), and Memory RAM 2 stick 8GB each. Not sure what else could be relevant?

But recently my computer shuts down when I play video games, is not all the time but sometimes. Sometimes it shuts down a few minutes after I open the game and sometimes it could go 30mins and then it shuts down. I'm a noob with computers, I only learned enough to build it, but dont know much more. I am not sure what it could be...any help is appreciated.

PS: Also, if I'm not gaming and just working or watching videos it has worked fine without shutting down, only when I open the game is when it has the issues.

Thank!

Sounds like something might be overheating. I’d recommend downloading Ryzen Master and monitoring the temps of your GPU & CPU when you play a game. I assume it may be your CPU that’ll need new thermal paste

Hello! thank you for prompt response. That is what I was thiking too, I actually forgot to mentioned that when I changed the CPUs initially I had it with the cooling that comes with the CPU, but then I changed it to a water cooler that my friend gave me, but my thermal paste seem to be not as liquid as when I used it the first time so not sure if that has anything to do with it...

Ryzen master is it the same as AMD Software Adrenaline Edition? I'm noobish with this things

Did you clean up the old paste and reapply thermal paste when you changed CPUs? That may be what the issue is. There could also be something wrong with the water cooling setup but the thermal paste is a good place to start

Amd Adrenaline Edition & Ryzen Master are two different programs but I believe they come installed together usually. This is the one I use: https://www.amd.com/en/products/software/ryzen-master.html

Search “Ryzen Master” in the Windows start menu and it’ll probably pop up

Thank you, I will try to look into it when I'm in the computer to see if I have that program.

I cleaned up before chaning it, bu the paste when I used it for the water cooling set up was kinda dried I think. I will do this first and hopefully it solves the issues. Will keep you updated when I do it

Whats the Water Cooler you currently have installed?

Is it a 120mm, 240mm or 360mm

That I do not know, how do I check that?

I just ordered some thermal paste so I will probably do that today/tomorrow and see if that solved the issue

normally a 120 is fan only, and 240 is 2 fans 360 being 3 fans, but also check what brand you have and see if you can download their software to check your fans, and modify their speeds while gaming, idle etc.
