Hey eveyone my friend is looking for a laptop just to write her book on a printable format.. nothing crazy but something somewhat decent that dosent have a shitty keyboard feel maybe would be nice...

she has no preference, something with a durable battery i would say would be the main thing she does absolutely nothing else than writing.

We live in Canada.. there is this used mac around my town for about 850$ but its a bit high for what she uses the computer for... she was wondering if it would be worth it to buy just from walmart a 200$ computer...

if anyone has any reccomendation or stuff to avoid maybe would be grateful!

Mac from Apple might have limited uses when you want to play good games.

If they have the funds, it would be terribly difficult to beat an M1 MacBook Air for overall battery/keyboard quality. Best thing to do would be go to a store with laptops on display, test them out, look up battery life reviews etc.

$279 from Dell.
If you need more RAM. you can buy 16gb of DDR4 SO-DIMM 3200mhz RAM (it will automatically change to 2666 mhz) for like $30, a basic ifixit toolkit for $15 on Amazon, and can follow an ifixit guide. Personally, I would create a Windows 11 USB installer and reinstall windows 10 to rid yourself of the bloatware before you use it. I'll even QuickAssist you and walk you through the entire process if needed. Your activation key is tied to the laptops motherboard.

I would recommend a Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop
12th Generation Intel® Core™ i3-1215U (10MB Cache, up to 4.4 GHz, 6 cores)
8 GB: 1 x 8 GB, DDR4, 2666 MT/s
Intel® UHD Graphics
256 GB, M.2, PCIe NVMe, SSD
Windows 11 Home, English, French, Spanish
15.6", FHD 1920x1080, 120Hz, WVA, Non-Touch, Anti-Glare, 250 nit, Narrow Border, LED-Backlit
I'm guessing an 6-8 hour battery life.

M1 MacBook Keyboard quality is atrocious, especially on the air. They still cost $500 refurbished with tax. The battery life is typically between 10-14 hours. It's not going to be 18 or 20.

AFAIK, the Microsoft Office 365 setup only installs the web versions of word, excel, etc on MacOS and ChromeOS.

I can compare the Dell you recommended and an M1 air side-by-side right now; The Dell has a fair amount of deck flex, night and day difference in typing. Not to mention the drastic drop in battery life, audio, brightness and the hinge design is not great. MS Office 365 works great on the M1.

The M1 doesn't do what he needs it for unless he uses a VM... also the M1's keyboard fucking sucks in laymen terms. It's even worse than the wired apple keyboards.

Tbf, any $100 laptop will do what OP is looking for. 95% of all laptop keyboards suck, I'm not stating the Apple is best in class. There's plenty of $300-$400 AliExpress laptops with actual Mechanical keys and decent battery life; if OP has a limited budget ofc quality will suffer.

You believe MacOS is incapable of running MS Word?
