Fairly trivial pickup, but I got a 2x8 kit of Patriot Viper DDR4 today. Pretty sure that all I have left is the cooler and the video card at this point (and eventually a better display for it all, obvs.)

Anyway, grabbed the kit for $54, so I'm still doing well on my budget overall, and I'm surprised to see that so many reviews have this memory as near the top of the line stuff - I honestly didn't think there was much difference between brands of memory in the first place, frankly. :P

So, recap:

Case & 850W PSU - Jacked from my big brother.
GA-X99 mobo - $130
5820k - $329
RAM - $54

Relatively sure that only leaves me with the cooler and a video card, yeah? Maybe a sound card if I want that sort of thing, which I'm not sure if I do - does anyone have any opinions on that subject, actually? I'm considering getting surround eventually, so it might be worth it to get something halfway decent?

Assuming that's out, I know I wanna get a Noctua DH-215, which is probably going to run me about $90, and then all I have to care about is the video card.

Speaking of which, I've come to a pretty solid conclusion on that front, though I'm only about 80% sure of it - I'm going to get a 1070 with the knowledge that I can sell it second-hand in a year or two to help pay for a 1080ti or whatever they end up calling it. :D That way I'm not stuck with a first generation card but I've still got something that'll completely blow my hair back while I wait. If I do that and I'm not patient enough to wait for OEM and get a founder's edition instead, then I'm looking at a final cost of riiiiight under 1k for what I think is going to be a damned fine machine.

You guys talked me out of another mistake again, I think - having looked at monitors, they just don't tend to have the same dimensions and just aren't going to work for me, inch for inch, and anything bigger than 32" at that level is pretty pointless.

Soooo:

I'm thinking I'll grab this sucker here. Of course, the problem with that is that it's 4k, so I'm thinking I might have to go all-out and grab a 1080. Even then, I know I'll have to turn off some stuff to hit 60 fps@4k. :(
