idk, with everything that I'm reading, that kind of refresh really only matters if you're doing a lot of very quick twitching in games on a competitive level. Like I said, there are a ton of people with reviews on the monitor I posted that said it's just great in games and that the colors are incredible, which I think will be awesome for both video and movies.

The most important bit is the size, tho - this is going to be my main TV. My partner doesn't really want a much bigger TV and we've got a 32 right now, but I'm definitely not going to drop five inches of TV for some milliseconds that I'll never notice.

The higher refresh is nice for everything. It makes everything look smoother. Its just a better overall experience. Although, my recommendation is to use two seperate screens for TV and computer. TV's and computer monitors are the inherently different. Televisions use motion interpolation instead of a true refresh rate to achieve the "120 hz" or higher. What this does is insert fake frames between real ones or simply duplicate existing ones and slightly blur them so it looks real. That is fine for a TV signal since most STB'S only output 60 hz anyway, but it will make games coming from a PC source look more blurred since the source is capable of over 60 hz.

there are a bunch of tvs that do 1080p@120hz, without motion interpolation
http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-usage/pc-monitor/best

for <$500 you can buy a vizio e 4k tv, which is imo better than any non 144hz monitor for gaming. you basically get a huge 4k monitor with an excellent va panel, built in speakers, low input lag, low response time, local dimming, and is usable on its own as a tv. and no gay shit like backlight issues, ips glow, shitty welfare tn panel

you can get an even bigger tv (vizio 4k d series) for cheaper, but it wont be able to do chroma 4:4:4 at 60hz. which isnt an issue for gaming

Its not the size that matters, it's how you use it

Most of those TVs have an "effective" refresh rate of 120hz but a "real" refresh rate of 60hz. That's not true 120hz. Even the reviews you linked say they suffer from blurring and flickering at 1080p120hz. So, no, they're aren't good TVs to use.

The cheapest option on those lists was like $700 and also way bigger than I'm trying to get, coz of how I mentioned before that my partner doesn't care for us getting anything bigger than the 32" we've got now. Just like in the bedroom, she's perfectly happy with slightly-below-mediocre in the size department.

Anyway, I'm not seeing anything that's convincing me against the BenQ at all here. The only thing that might do it for me is that it does seem like it's got some motion blur (though not as bad as some older screens do) when it comes to watching live sports, which could be an issue for me if it's really bad.
