When I tell people to do their homework when they tell the i3 is fine I offend them and I do it on purpose. In this case Mason's advice was bad, but that doesn't mean my wording isn't offensive. I applied the same to you, irregardless if you did/do it on purpose.

Sorry about not understanding "hmk", I thought you said 'hmmk', as in hmm ok. This Kik isn't really a thing here in Finland. That was my bad.

And you still don't seem to understand the point in the price thing; I never weighed any of the options I offered. I gave OP what were in my opinion the best choices, and left him and other Americans find the best choice out of the options. I knew any of the three would be a lot cheaper than upgrading to new mobo but and was pretty sure the i5 vs i7 difference wouldn't be more than $60 just by guessing, and as you just told me, I was correct.

I'm very well aware the current Intels haven't gone up all that much in IPC clock for clock, that is exactly why I'm recommending OP to get the old i7 and not to upgrade to newer platform.

If you're trying to tell me i5's wouldn't exist if they're mediocre at running newest games alongside other processes, you should listen to yourself. Why wouldn't they exist? They're relevant as a top-end option (or at least were before Ryzen - and I'll treat it as such in the coming conv) for most gaming, but not in the most multi-threaded CPU heavy games such as the BF1 we mentioned. The i5's are a good option, but surely not the best for everything. By this sense I'd say you claiming them irrelevant for not being the best is silly and definitely out of context.

The friends who I played BF1 with had varying setups. The ones using i5's had significantly more lag game disturbing spikes in 32-man games than the ones using i7's, not to mention 64. At least two of those i5 fellows had better GPU than I do or one of the other guys who had i7. Most of the peeps I played with the most had/have vid or stream in the background, if their computer allowed it. Feel free to tell me if you've had opposing experiences.

I used BF1 as an example of overclocked Intel CPU's being pushed to the limit. Same would apply if he'd play PoE and had CPU intensive tasks in the background. After playing as much as I have, I'd choose a few dedicated cores for PoE and multiple cores, HT or not, for background shenanigans over taking the chance of having my computer buttfuck my gear from me because I just wanted to watch a stream on source when I'm in town without changing it to lower quality when I'm mapping actively. I died a few chars with pretty neat 6l's this season due to my router lagging before buying a new one and I wouldn't want that happening to anyone else. I would still pay that forementioned estimated margin of $60 just to make my hobby more enjoyable.

I didn't tell him to get an i7 you doorknob.

My bad it sounded like it, but ya I agree with you. Spend 100 or less on an i5.

You still don't seem to understand the price thing, I said 2500k/2600k as fixed from Ur 2600/2700 because 2700 is more rare than the other 2, hence the overprice.

U can definitely play poe end game with no problems on an i5 with a stream or vid running without any problems. You literally just confirmed that Ur cause of lag was a router problem.

I got your point from earlier post, not from the first though :) And as me telling him to get any compatible i7, like said.

Best choice in terms of money, to clarify. In terms of power they're equal anyway.

Sure, in any normal environment I agree without a question. I'm going to want to see 40%(or above) double beyond breach CPU usage, which is the late game where you aim for anyways. I have some benchmarking to do.

If it's gonna cap those three cores, I feel like i7 would still be the more sane option. If the engine just falls short I stand corrected.

Yes, I tried to refer to the overall shit feeling you get from dying to lag. I have been using 6700K the whole season.

I did not expect all of the traffic on here.

Budget: About $600 I guess. Most of what I have been seeing that is interesting has been $550 or less.

Internet: Wired.
Internet Speed: 25 down 5 up.

Tuning: Not much. I disabled a few annoyances, but not much.
