so you buy games for graphics and resolution? shit I'm going to start buying my games for details and colors lol
no you buy them for gameplay
why wouldnt you want to buy a monitor for smoother gameplay

by 1440p vs 1080p same aspect ratio just more detail lol

yes you can scale down to 1080p

Wtf are you even going on about
While sure 144hz will play smoother than 60hz, the gameplay of the video game is the same

You are acting like 60fps is unplayable
And while we're at it, is it out of the ordinary to play games for graphics, resolutions, AND gameplay?

And we are trying to fit within his budget
If he could afford 1440p 144hz and have a gfx that can run it, of course that's what we would recommend

But that's not the case here

Why would you sacrifice graphics, resolution, and detail for smoother gameplay when it is ALREADY SMOOTH

Look
I dont understand how anyone would think 60fps is unplayable, unresponsive, or not smooth

It is good and very smooth

So what do you want

You already have a smooth locked 60fps for gameplay
Along with the smooth 60fps, you get amazing resoultion and amazing colors without sacrificing or compromising anything
You also set yourself up for future upgrades for next gen games in 1440p

Or

You can have smoother gameplay with higher frame rate with possible fluctuating frames(overwatch for sure on high settings)
Along with the extra smooth fps on top of the already smooth 60fps, you compromise and sacrifice for lower graphical settings and lower resolution

The amount of information you apply to people you don't know.

There is a reason why you could say only 50% of silvers notice the difference between 60Hz and 144Hz, and 90% of anyone above LEM notices the same difference. It is simply the little things that make the difference, are you capable of saying whether OP is a silver or SMFC? If not, why are you saying OP should definately choose one option, instead of deciding himself.

Can a 1440p monitor be scaled to 1080p and not look shitty if I'm not getting the framerate I want?

Yes, to some extent. You can change the fidelity in Overwatch via resolution slider, which changes the resolution the game is really rendered behind the UI, anywhere from 50% to default 100%

This. I could buy a 1070 if I really wanted one and then dump $500+ for a 1440p 144hz IPS monitor... but I don't need all of that. lol

Sure
I guess I'm done then

OP stated he has a gtx 970 and plays tons of Overwatch
I have gtx 970 and play Overwatch
I have tried Overwatch on 1080p on high settings and the fps ranges from 90 to 140 and mostly under 110(140 is only in spawn or near spawn)
My opinions are just based on that

He'd have to lower it medium for consistent frames on 144hz and at the point you're just playing on console graphical settings with smoother frame rates

There was no mention of CS GO

and you dodged the question lol

most gamers i know would give up colors over hz, btw colors can be adjusted and details can be used with downsampling

or they just save for both

Even 144hz in just windows

this is kinda how it feels like draggin from my 60hz monitors over to my main 144hz monitor.
tho its not realistic because that video is 30fps and your monitor would be 60hz if it was higher fps anyways.

It's going to be sold out everywhere at release and will cost more aka Early Adopter Tax.
E: Also, I prefer Nvidia. My GTX 970 SSC has a factory overclock at 1342 MHz. These have a boost up to 1266 MHZ? lol

No it won't
It'll come out as msrp
It's amd
And will be able to get
Only 1 time amd new cards
Been hard to get in last 5yrs
