Honestly, you're wasting your time and money. Unless you're running a 144hz screen, you might as well be gaming on a potato instead of buying a 1070.
4k doesn't mean shit if the update rate is 60hz. Get chromecast and connect it to your tv, besides that, you need a proper monitor for gaming.

Still matters if I want to get into VR, for running at home type stuff, and for my actual stated purpose of a machine that will still serve up what I want into the 2020s.

Putting more weight on new tech than applying the one that is allready available when you've got close to 0 cash?
Besides, almost no games are VR compatible, and they probably won't be for another 1-2 years.
Get a proper monitor with 144hz, or just get a 970 and upgrade later when you can afford a proper monitor.
Doesn't matter if you're running 4 x 1080's if you're using an old plasma tv with shit res.

So once again, you guys have talked me into realizing that I need to push it a bit further, so I've been looking at something that'll work as a compromise - I still want something that I can keep in the living room and have work as a main television. What I've got is a shitty old 32 inch anyway, so I think that this might make a decent replacement:

https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-BL3200PT-Designer-Monitor-Animation/dp/B00ITORMNM?ie=UTF8&SubscriptionId=AKIAJ2RTWSYJUOAO3DIA&ascsubtag=%5Bsite%7Cthaus%5Bcat%7C%5Bart%7C%5Bpid%7CB00ITORMNM%5Btid%7C14666366565229851%5Bbbc%7CLESPRIX&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00ITORMNM&linkCode=xm2&tag=bom_tomshardware-20&tzd=18

Still not a full 144, but the reviews say that there's a lot less motion blur than other monitors and I'm not huge on twitching around anyway. I can't imagine that I'm going to find something in the 32+ range for a computer monitor that does 1440p for a price that's remotely as good, and I'm never going to game on a level where milliseconds will matter.

Are you going to be doing photoshop/video edditing/etc?

Because that's what that monitor is for.

Tons of folks in the reviews saying that it works just fine for them as far as gaming is concerned and looks gorgeous, tho.

Are you a graphical designer?

But sure if you need a 32" and need realistic coloring.
Diff not where my money would be used. Gaming wise.
