I'be noticed in most of your build from both of you you all recommend the R9 gfx, is it really that good of a card?

Also back to SSD, I have never really messed with them. If I could lets say, would it be a good idea to get a small one for STRICTLY windows only, and have another xxgbs one for installs of programs? just wondering if that would affect performance at all.

With some programs today taking up such massive room, I was just curious.

Thank you all for the debates and ideas, it really is helping.

cost/perf, yes, amd makes the most sense, depends on the budget for the card ofc

SSD for OS is great + drivers + every day programs + using it for games that require long load times (usually act changes or area changes in open world games)
everything else typically goes on a hard drive (movies, games you don't play that often, programs you don't use daily, games that don't require load times)

Okay makes sense, I currently have a 500gb hdd for backups like photos, etc (important things) , and 2 3tb externals for all my media storage( I have a lot)

My monitor could used upgraded but it's still got a TON of life left in it, it's an ACER 201w 20in, it is an lcd but its still amazingly crisp

i'd upgrade but i don't play many graphically sexy games right now ;)
might if/when i buy rainbow 6, we'll see what happens lol

also, my cine r15 scores for the other user
AND NO IM NOT RUNNING WINDOWS 8 LOL

according to this link
http://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/cpu-intel_core_i5_6600-523

the skylake 6600 got a score of 597
my ivy bridge 3570k got a score of 590

it's a mild o/c, not balls to the wall push the system into the ground either :)

I will probably stick with windows 7, I still think it is the best.

Also this is completely random, I have a burnt laptop with an i5 (might be an i3) sitting in it I never bothered to fix, it is only a couple years old

is it possible to take a laptop process and match it to a desktop? Im assuming no due to size ratio, but its worth a shot to ask lol

E- the power supply is burnt only, laptop is fine

you want to convert your laptop to a desktop?
the only problem is a fried cord right?

the actual power supply is shot on it, not the battery or the cord but the inside device, so it could be the mobo in general, but the processor should be fine I would need to solder in a new power kit, which i don't want to mess with having no knowledge

Oh I see. You would need a new mobo and u probably wouldn't be able to move the CPU to a desktop board (I'm really not sure)

Do u have the model number of the laptop? Post it here if so :)

Star Citizen is not even released yet. Most games in alpha testing are cpu heavy as it is not optimised yet.

Well okay. If you build your PC on "how sexy" it is then that might be fine for you, but other people are mostly looking for the best performance for their money. Overclocked CPU's simply dont offer that.

ALSO: what Cinebench15 Scores do you get with your CPU and what cooling do you use?

Stop it. Just stop it. By making these statements it shows you have little to no knowledge.

Star Citizen while in Alpha is still being designed for multi core and multi thread CPUs. This is the way Chris Roberts wants it. This also explains the delay in a final product. You should research before making such inane comments.

Also overclocking helps with min fps. It has benefits in any CPU intense application. Again, do your research. Even Ghot wouldn't make such ridiculous claims.

@OP you cannot use laptop parts in a desktop. No point even trying.

first of all the main stream support for windows 7 has ended 15.01.2015. until 2020 microsoft will only fix security bugs.

Also 90% of the notebook prozessors are soldered. Only the prozessors with a M are socketed.
But otherwise it works, as long as you know exactly what parts are in your laptop. But you need some manual skills to somehow build the main board into a desktop case and build custum fittings for cooling.

I dont right now, its in a box somewhere in storage, I usually keep electronics around for a what if scenario. I am find buying a new one, was just curious if it would work before dropping the money.
