thanks for that site

so what i can do i guess to bring cost down a little

1. use my own win7 (-$100)
2. drop my RAM to 8 gb (-$100)
3. drop my HDD to 1 TB (-$40)

any other suggestions that could bring the cost down without sacrificing too much?

i'm going with the "oustanding" build on that site

Yep that all sounds good to me their builds are all pretty solid

My suggestion is to check out some of the parts at higher/lower price points too and shop around for sales, occasionally you might find an ever better part for cheaper (or a slightly weaker part for a massive discount) since the prices that site lists are only for designated retailers and I believe are manually updated

There's also good guides for monitors and peripherals on that site

Because the 290x is a case heater and uses more power.

ah, well i won't be overclocking or anything

power isn't much of an issue since the PSU i'm going with should be sufficient enough

i can pay a bit extra for some better cooling

i'm just iffy about that VRAM issue, even though it probably won't affect me since I won't be gaming to those standards

Every part in Samsung SSD's is made by Samsung. For SSD's Samsung is the go to company, Intel is next, not for speed but for durability. But Samsung is still king.

/e Crucial is gfg as well.
