Going to re open this discussion with another question,
How many cores do you guys look for in a cpu? It seems this bumps price from an acceptable 300-500$ range to 2-3k range

How important is a 12 core cpu vs your regular 4 or 6core?
ps i'm running a small country's space program off my new computer,

Depends on how many cores your program(s) and/or games utilize and how effective each core is utilized.

Most games use 1-2 cores, but more and more games are taking advantage of 4+.

I would say you only NEED 2 cores, but 4 cores is a safe bet if you can afford it. More than 4 CPU cores for gaming is money that could go towards more cuda cores :p

Well IBM just threw a monkey wrench in AMD's world, too early to tell what will come of it, but we can always hope. Intel needs competition or their prices will just go up...

/e IBM to pay Globalfoundries $1.5 billion to take chip unit
