This is really the heart of it. I don't get a chance to spend money on shit like this very often and so I definitely need something that's going to be future proof. I don't want something that's good enough to run everything well right now, I want it to be good enough to run the newest games on medium in 5-6 years. :P

Lol future proof

For starters if you bought 980ti now you would be an idiot cuz next cards around the corner

Lol been running everything fine on surround for year and half on 970sli and before that 670 sli on release
Before that 6850 xfire for couple weeks and before that 460 sli
Now tell me where my sli issues are?
And to vram
Not many games actually use vram like you think they allow more to be cached yes but didn't fo shit majority of the time
Bit rate plays huge part also if you didn't know

Implying that buying THE BEST video card out atm instead of waiting to buy a FIRST gen video card that will at max be 5-10% better than the TI, with far less support out, considering how its a fucking first gen, is idiotic.

Keep dick riding the fact that you can't afford a new 980 ti so you have to buy another 970 to run SLI. But don't try to sell off that buying 2 new 970 to run SLI is better than a TI. Especially when a TI can be bought for cheaper than 2x 970's. Funny thing, I heard 980 ti's can run SLI too. I must have misheard though.

A 5820k is all you will need honestly if you decide to buy it. All the i7's are unlocked on that platform. And they only support DDR4 Ram.

Don't waste money on a 960 especially on that build.

Not even sure if I can post in here anymore coz I'm building so slowly, but felt the need to mention it somewhere that I finally got my 5820k for $329. Could have waited a bit longer and gotten closer to the $250 that I was hoping to spend, but it's hard to find one under $380 right now and I didn't want to wait much longer.

Now that the new generation of cards is out, or about to be, I'm definitely considering jumping on a 1070 or even saving up a little and hitting a 1080 instead of worrying about the older series at all. I figure a 1070 now and then a second one in 3-4 years should keep it a good rig for running games at 720p for a long ass time. :D

Why do you talk?
Just dont talk and do what youre told really.
You have no clue what youre doing.

Also its whether you buy it all right away or dont even bother.
New parts come out faster than youre building, by the time you finish its 2020.

So you mad af? It's okay to be

I specifically said in the OP that I was going to be building a machine over the next couple of months. It's been under two months and all I have left to buy is the cooler, the RAM and the video card.

So what exactly has you so salty? What have I said that remotely justified your sad little personal attacks? My machine will be done in a few months, will probably have cost me less than 1k, and will have an 3.3Ghz 5820k oc'd to 4GHz and a 1070. If I have a few extra bucks, I might push the whole out of pocket cost all the way to a whopping $1100. I'm right at my goals and I got some pretty decent advice out of this thread.

My question is why are you getting all this hardware to run at 720p?

I'll probably end up upgrading the TV before too long and at least have 1080p to worry about, though unlikely to hit 4k any time soon - but I'm really just not very hardcore and honestly want something that I'll be happy with for at least 5+ years, hopefully as long as 8. It's something that I definitely don't want to do again any time in the near future.

The 720p part is honestly me half-joking about and half-realizing that I have to put a TV upgrade on my list before too long. :P
