In general I'd go with an AMD build as well... but AMD FX-8320 & AM3+ offer zero upgradeability in the future compared to LGA1150 / i3. Also, that Intel CPU performs better in almost all AAA titles in FHD (which should be the reference for an R9 285 ImO).

LGA1150 isn't going to be worth upgrading when and if OP decides he wants to upgrade, intel will have moved on to another socket. Throwing money into upgrading on a dead socket will be a waste of money, OP would be better off getting the best of what he can now, especially as games start utilizing more cores.

The difference in cores will also allow OP to multitask heavily among other things.

The unlocked AMD CPU will perform roughly the same (negligible differences) in processes that don't utilize many cores after a decent overclock as well.

Don't really intend on overclocking (conserve longevity), prefer no mail-in-rebates, upgrades in the future are big possibility to a recent socket type would be preferred.

Totals to $525 before taxes/shipping, any input? I've kind of taken from a couple of your builds and compiled to this so far. Would love updates/additional info!

When it comes to FG/reward I'm just kinda giving to people who I'm taking advice/ideas/input from :)

Might try to downgrade a couple of other things and implement this CPU... is it quite a bit better than the 6300?

Change powersupply to evga's 600w
The one you picked isn't reliable.

Last I checked superbizz was sold out on the cpu, so go with Amazon at 99.

Will change PSU. Still have like a week until I can purchase though :( I have a feeling prices will change.. for now it's nice to have a good build though.

CPU currently in stock.

Appreciate all of the help! :)

Currently at $524, feels good!

I bought it!!!

Haven't had a gaming rig in awhile :) this is exciting!

Did I do okay? I ended up buying only through Newegg for a few reasons.. Shipping was about $50 cheaper than SuperBiiz, and the "$5 off coupon" that they quote in partpicker only applies one time, not for EACH item purchased, so it's really only -$5 and not -$5 x 8 parts.

Chose the raidmax because I've had decent experience with them in the past for budget builds, and it's modular. Chose the galaxy case because it's a kickass price + free shipping.

Found the R9 280 @ $170!!! Super excited about this.

Another HUGE thing to remember is about the RAM, as I see a lot of people posting RAM combo deals with DDR3 2400 that is incompatible with the motherboard it's combo'd with.

This is the combo which is the culprit.. I've read that either the RAM will either not POST or will only run at 1600 or something like that.. Would love to get more info on this though!

Oh no. Raidmax is not a good brand for power supplies. Cancel that order ASAP.

raidmax/coolmax are one of those power supplies you'd wanna avoid, and not risk it in any build.

Also, about the ram, it's fine.
straight from gigabyte's website:
* To support a DDR3 1866 MHz (and above) memory, you must install an AM3+ CPU first.
if you worry about it, u can downclock it as well.
though i'd go with UD3P over ds3p, since the difference isn't much atm, especially combo'd with 2400 ram. Would do well with a easy OC cpu like 6300.

Ergh, is there an easy way to cancel?
