and 1 x e6300 clocked at 1600fsb will smash all those. plus never mind the i3 that just came out for 120$. now amd needs more price slashes to even stay competitive.

And yet you recommended LGA775 not LGA1156.

Am I missing something?

I have an X2 5200+ which gets smashed by an X2 7750 which gets smashed by an X2 250 which gets smashed by an X2 500 series CPU.

See the chain?

My X2 5200+ actually bottlenecks some of my games (CPU based games obviously)

I spent ~70 on my CPU and if I spent another ~70 I could see as much as a 30% increase in some games.

also man. ur better off just keeping the 5200, clocking the living shit out of it, and buying a new gpu in 3-4 years imo. keep the same mobo and cpu.

An overclock on this CPU takes a hell of a lot to yield similar results for a CPU of the same stock speed offered by AMD.

I would need a NEW HSF which is going to cost me a pretty penny (to get a good one) and ultimately be worthless.

if u game ur only going to see drastic performance increase from a gpu. or a gpu and a cpu. but if u gotta pic one gpu is greater. yah ofc ur cpu is gonna bottleneck the gpu but just overclock the most u can.

I play a small list of games, of which are primarily CPU bottlenecks on my GPU by a hefty framerate.

and what gpu is that? even if ur 5200 bottlenecks a 7800geforce card. if u got the ati radeon 5970 or w/e the fuk it is your cpu is going to bottleneck it even more yeah, but ur also going to see a huge increase in fps still,

HD4670.

I'm losing like 25% max framerates because of my CPU on the two primary games I play (TF2/L4D) and less marginal losses on other games.

Although I don't game very often anymore (virtually at all)

and if ur buying a computer to future proof and u dont game or do cad shit. a new processer is going to do shit.

Besides straining my eyes reading this I think I got the jist of it.

No, there is nothing stupid in buying an adequate GPU, a beefy PSU and a GOOD motherboard, and waiting till you need more to upgrade just a CPU or GPU.
