So he's better off getting a R5 2600...ok!

Is this PSU a better choice (full modular)? https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/Tc3RsY/seasonic-power-supply-ss620gm2

I know he doesnt have any experience with overclocking so I advised him not to...

The PSU is better but not worth the price, you could get a gold one for that.
Overclocking is easy. It's built into motherboards these days; if you aren't willing to OC you're just losing out on free performance.

Yea ill pick a semi modular one thats cheaper.

Hmm ...... the more I read about this 144 hz thing, the more im leaning towards the 9600k...I really didnt know about all that stuff (refresh rate)..everywhere it says it performs better and is more stable for games

its also 100$ more expensive.

Also, any input on the monitor? that viewsonic xg2402 is a solid choice?

Picture won't be that pretty (poor colors and viewing angles), but itll get the job done.

im guessing 144 hz aint that big of a difference over a 120hz monitor right?

Which 120 hz monitor should he get for under 300$ CAD? Not sure he really needs to spend the money to achieve 144 FPS in all games he wanna play..

For something like overwatch and apex, the 144hz will be nice as long as he can push it hardware wise. If you're on a tighter budget, just get a 1080p 144hz. 1080p at ultra settings will look just as good if not better than 1440p medium in games like Overwatch IMO, and generally cost less.

That would be a nice 1080p monitor.
