So as it stands I should be good for the next 8-12 months? I was mainly concerned with the processor/board being a tad behind the curve

Edit: just saw your edited post regarding AMD, that makes me feel a bit better about the component :) thanks

Why do you think it's behind the curve tho, i5's cost the same but require 100% usage to do what the 1600 can accomplish with 40-50%. that's a lot of headroom to grow into for the future and multitask with now, where the i5's have already reached their apotheosis and have nowhere to go but down.

Surely it can't just be 'because its amd'

it has nothing in common with the FX series, it's pretty much the antithesis of it.

Honestly I don't really see the use in overclocking unless I'm a streamer playing AAA games, or some type of MLG. Is there really a point for it beyond those?

Bro to increase e-peen!
Well it's pretty much free performance, been doing this on all my CPU's back since Q6600.
Higher single core performance by overclocking will even increase FPS in some games.

To be honest my prejudice doesn't stem from an AMD processor, but personal accounts from others that have shared their experiences regarding other AMD products. I've shopped around a bit in the past and I've seen the i7 7700 for awhile and now the i9 just a bit ago, I'm unfamiliar with the comparisons, and just assumed that I had somehow been shortchanged in order to help move things along under the table. But in light of this thread I'm not too worried about it. I'm assuming the 0 attention toward the motherboard is a good thing

pretty sure it would melt my table knowing my luck, lol. I might give it a shot some day if I feel I have adequate cooling, since we all know I have the proper psu..

talking about fx and multitasking

fx killed 2500k in multithreading

but lost in multi tasking

which are probably from people who bought FX because they were ultra poor
don't side grade to an i7...

Yes, but the single core performance loss was just waaay to huge. IPC on those chips was godawful!

this shows the discrepancy of multitasking and multithreads

I know I have seen many people always say more cores and threads equal better multitasking

The huge ipc difference between bulldozer's 8150 and sandy bridge's 2500k wasn't going to go away just because AMD slapped an additional integer unit and register on each of its 4 (not eight) cores.
