Pointing out facts like you don't own any game you buy on steam is not tinfoil hatting, it's just reciting facts. The library should be a convenience, not the limit of your access to software you buy. You can argue for how nice and useful it is all you want but it doesn't refute my point that it shouldn't be the only option, and that fact that it is the only option is a problem. I've pointed out numerous reasons why the library is bad that wouldn't be reasons if they would just allow people to create their own copies. IF they did that, the library would be cool.

if i wanted to tinfoil hat I'd say the reason they don't allow people to download their own backups of these games that will install even offline is because they actually were planning to make people subscribe to access steam.

either ur full of shit, or ur friends are full of shit, or they're just so clueless and blame it on steam.
Steam doesnt go offline often, especially SEVERAL times a week
if you wanna exaggerate, at least do it right pls.

how does steam limit you wanting to play without internet?? just have ur steam login saved, so u can login offline and play games urself loner style nn internet for that shit

chances of steam going out of bsns or forcing you to subscribe monthly to use their platform has a much lower chance than your physical copy games not collecting dust on a shelf, so relax and stop being paranoid/worried imo

1. i never claimed that was my issue with the service

2. that's not the point, it's about ownership vs not ownership

oh wow clearly you have some issues

but if you kept up with any of it you never technically own it

google your heart out on software ownership

yup there it is
the point is that i don't need to ask anyone's permission to perform an installation. Or download anything.
It's ownership insofar that i have that sovereignty and it can't be taken away from me by a third party
Steam has way too much power over its users in that regard. There should be no earthly reason why someone shouldn't be able to have their own offline installer but that's DRM for you

I doubt anything bad will ever happen with Steam or its users but it's just not for me.

The only thing I avoid more than this is the internet of things because it's all fun and games til your thermostat gets ransomware and you're in anchorage alaska dead of winter about to literally freeze to death if you don't pay up. Also bad shit has already happened be it benign shit like light switches getting hacked or cats starving to death because their stupid automatic feeder lost wifi while they were on vacation. I still think closed systems should stay closed, and also that the cloud is only useful only in a corporate environment
