Thanks both of you for all your help. I went ahead and ordered everything. I went with the R9 390 and the i5-6600k 3.5ghz cpu...after rebates it's still a little overbudget but it'll be nice down the road to have more options and I'm sure I'll delve into overclocking now that I'll have the ability to. I'll report back once everything gets here and I get it put together :)

Nice, I was going to change to the R9 390 in the build for you.
Give me a list of what you ordered please.

@Fr3nChi: i would really be interested in where you take your information from.

RAM speed does effect performance

Where did you got the information? http://www2.pic-upload.de/img/29805344/RamSpeed.jpg http://www2.pic-upload.de/img/29805345/RamSpeedCB.png Source: LinusTechTipps

GPU clock speed does matter, yes it is the same GPU and can perform identically. However the cooling system on a OC'd GPU will let it push way more then the regular GPU as it will run cooler.

Where did you got the information that the Asus 970 Turbo has weaker cooling? Runs at 1290MHz, 53% Fan speed at 74C. Thats very solid cooling performance. http://www2.pic-upload.de/img/29805268/16074837565l.jpg

he could go for a cheaper SSD and honestly the difference is not very noticeable unless he is planing to run 2 SSD's in Raid 0.

Where do you get the information that a SSD RAID 0 will make any difference? Boot times dont change by increasing the speed further then what a regular SSD can do. Same goes for loading times in games.

-I never said RAM speed will be noticeable in gaming, it depends on what it is used for. It is really not noticeable but for certain uses it will be faster and for most cases it won't make a difference.
It also depends on the Clock Speed which balances it out.
However the 3000Mhz I picked has a CAS of 15 compared to the 2400Mhz that has a CAS of 16, so it is definitely faster. And it's the same price.

-TURBO-GTX970-OC-4GD5 (Asus Card), I didn't say it's cooling was weak. I said it's weaker then the 04G-P4-2978-KR (EVGA Card).
They should both perform well, but the EVGA card will outperform it slightly. Also, the card I picked is $5 cheaper.

-SSD Raid 0 is faster. I did not say it will be faster in boot time even do that would be slightly faster as well. That is not the only reason people buy SSD's. However reads and writes will almost double in most cases.
Also the graph you showed compares different SSD's nothing to with RAID 0.

Next time make sure you understand what I'm talking about before you start flaming.

Quick question - parts are starting to come in for my computer and I purchased a Windows 10 Pro OEM key, where do I download Windows 10 files so that I can put them on an external drive and transfer them to my new build?

You dont download the files... You create a boot device. There is a tool at the windows website that will create it for you.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
Simply click on download tool.
