worth the ride to save big bucks

Time may be a big deal for some people. Funion is crazy and I'd never spend the 8 hours driving down there! [I'm from syracuse - kinda... east syracuse - too!]
Well if we aren't talking about Microcenter, then this is what im putting up

You're basically paying them $200 to put it together. Even then, you could get an i5 + Better Mobo + 970 instead of the i7 + Cheap Mobo + 960. Although, the motherboard won't make that much of a difference if you don't plan on overclocking. The ASRock Z97 Anniversary was designed as a Z series board specifically for the Pentium G3258, but will run other processors.

The power supply they use is likely 80+ (Not even bronze), or not even certified. All the parts not named are as cheap as they can get, just remember that.

Tl;dr
You can get better performance for cheaper if you build it yourself.

You can get this build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fThnrH

But go to the Paterson Microcenter and get the CPU and motherboard there for $270 after rebate. About $60-70 cheaper that way.

If you just want a monitor head to best buy and grab one.

As for "good" monitors look for IPS monitors with lowest pixel pitch....or TN monitors with low pixel pitch and high refresh rate. Depending on what type of games you play.
