Yeah it looks solid, I would even increase my budget slightly for an Intel Core i7-4790K

This is why I don't help high budget builds...

I can increase my budget... after we've spent the time helping... pick a budget and stick to it... the i7 is pointless for gaming and only necessary if you are making a living doing rendering...

The help is very much appreciated, I didn't say I would increase it for sure, this is stuff I'm thinking on.

I might even downgrade his build slightly to save a couple dollars

If its just for gaming, there really isn't any pressing reason to get an i7. Hyper-threading doesn't do anything for games (at the moment, if ever - its unknown), but if you plan on severely multitasking as well then it would be worth it in the short term. There is no reason to go above the 4690k just for gaming, especially for the added cost.

If anything, if you're willing to spend more money, you should get a GTX 980 instead of 970.

His build won't stay in your budget after taxes.. mine will.. they are exactly the same spec wise except mine has a smaller ssd... but mine also has a very nice small form factor to it. His is a good build but too expensive.. mine is what I'd personally get if I had that budget and lived in CA... if you don't need an SSD though you could find ways to make a 980 fit into the build probably.

I think it just depends on what OP wants really, I had picked a fx cpu since that's what i think is best for the budget since he's just gaming.

Really comes down to what preferred components he wants.

I would still get Windows 8.1 because it gets a free upgrade to Windows 10 when it releases. Also, the performance has been improved over Windows 7 and won't stop being support as soon!

To give you guys an update. I have ordered basically everything on Funion's build. I switched the RAM to:

G.SKILL Ripjaws X F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1866 CL9-10-9-28 Memory [F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL] [Reg. $97.80]

Also that video card was back-ordered basically everywhere. But I managed to get my hands on this:

EVGA GeForce GTX970 Superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5 256BIT DVI-I HDMI SLI Ready Graphics Card [04G-P4-2974-KR]

Funion original build: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/nHJGdC
