total is 670$ - 10$ mir + windows x64 + optical drive ( you can usually scavenge this from any computer if it uses a sata connection [ not a big connector] or you could buy windows from microsoft in a digital download and make a bootable flash drive) + monitor ( don't spend more then 130$ on it or you're going to blow up your budget)

/e give game code if you're not going to play it :D

$11 off $70 with a combo seem like a lame deal when that C.L. 10 R.A.M. would be single channel. Some might argue that dual channel wouldn't have a noticeable difference in games, especially D.D.R.-1600, but I would rather have 2 x 4 GB sticks; I doubt that more than 8 GB would be needed, so no more R.A.M. would be mixed...
That P.S.U. would be not needed, so I would try to get a if a cheaper one to get a better H.D.D.

i admit that i went a little bit crazy on the power supply knowing that the computer doesn't even draw more then 400w but i wanted to put a modular one and op mentioned they only wanted a 500gb hard drive and there was no decent combo in my opinion that came with the things i was looking for.

here's a re-modded version of my build , tho it's more expensive before mir.

the total would be 680$ - 35$ mir.

the major differences are:
-the power supply is changed to a rosewill forteress 450w platinum ( non modular version)
-the ram is changed to a 2x4gb ddr3 2400mhz cl10 kit

the minor differences are:
-the case is changed to a rosewill challenger
-the hard drive is changed to a seagate barracuda.

is the 6 core CPU going to really matter all that much compared to the 4 core? Battlefield 3 will be the most intensive thing id be doing on my computer.
Also why get the more expensive 2x 4gb ram chips, instead of the Patriot Gamer 2 Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory. they equal the same amount of ram but the patriot ram is 10 bucks cheaper. is the more expensive ram better, if so how?
also, is the gtx 660 better than the radeon 7870? trying to get the best GPU for the price.
also the hard drive u listed, "Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive" is 60 bucks. but this one is also 60 bucks, Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive" wouldnt the 1 tb be better, since its the same price?
Also i dont quite understand motherboards at all. this one is the one you listed "MSI 970A-G46 AM3+ AMD 970 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard with UEFI BIOS". its 80 bucks. but this one is 50 bucks, "MSI 760GM-P23 (FX) Micro ATX AM3+ Motherboard" whats the difference? does it matter? cause one is 30 bucks cheaper :] .

one other thing. the power supply. is it a bad thing to get too much wattage on a power supply than what you need? just in case if i were to upgrade in the future. if too much watts isnt a bad thing, why not get it now if its only a small bit more pricey?

i'd toss in a hyper 212+, even if arnt going to OC
I'd also shop around for a case. Youtube videos and reviews, get a good grasp of whats on the market

and i'd try to find some way to save money to either boost the CPU or GPU, but nothing left to do. Pretty reasonable build

would getting a better cpu really make much difference? i would think the gpu matters most for Battlefield 3. And the cpu i would hope should be more than sufficient?

not trying to nitpick. just get a better understanding. Thanks alot for the responses so far everyone! Much appreciated!

Nvidia cards run better than their A.M.D. equivalents in B.F.3, and B.F.3 multiplayer could require a bunch of threads when lots of players are playing.

What do you want as an add-on in the future? That would be the determining factor in deciding the P.S.U. wattage because half of a P.S.U.'s load would be its most efficient spot.

ok thanks. and when you say could use a bunch of threads do u mean it uses more of the gpu. or more of the cpu as far as more cores being used? excuse my ignorance ;]

For the more players that would be playing in B.F.3, more available cores (virtual for Intel) would be better.

the cpu part is covered by l4d's post and the price difference is 10$.
the more expensive ram in that build gives a 20% speed boost over that ram.
the motherboard i put in doesn't have a really old chipset like that motherboard you have ( so i wouldn't be sure if it's compatible with the cpu ) and i wouldn't skimp on my motherboard since it's one of the most important parts of the computer.
change the hard drive to the one you're looking at if you want. the hard drive i put in has a small discount after you put in a promo code in the shopping cart.
too much wattage doesn't matter.

according to the video seems like radeon cards run better by around 5 to 10 percent than nvidia. the gtx 660 was bit slower than the radeon 7870.

also if more cores = better play online, then shouldnt i just go for the 8 core amd CPU's? i thought cores are meant for more tasks not for more people online? wouldnt more people online mean i would need a better gpu and not more cpu cores? im a bit confused.

thanks for the response. so i guess the more expensive ram is better if its 20 percent faster.
you mentioned the motherboard you put in does not have an old chipset, so im guessing a newer mobo and newer chipset are better? but how are they better? just more reliable as far as not breaking? or quicker? im just wondering if id really notice a difference?

thanks guys!!!!

I need to check current news... Thank you! As that video stated, the 660 at $235 would be negated for B.F.3 because of the 7870's price of $240.
