HDDs are hard drives that have movable parts. The SSDs are solid state drives, they have no moving parts, and have massive read/write speeds. The difference between the two is that HDDs are cheaper and are generally better for storing large amounts of data due to the cost vs performance. The SSDs are great but generally are almost exponentially more expensive than their HDDs counterpart. If you use any random SSD as your main drive you will definitely increase the performance of your computer.

E: That test was to test out how you will perform with a regular SATA 3 GB/s instead of a SATA 6 GB/s.
