You ask about a build then people come in and give knowledge and you reply with "definitely not"

Well he's actually "definitely correct" since you stated you are ocing

They limit the stock clock speed on the lower models

8700k is overkill imo

1070 will do you for a few years unless you get 4k

Oh, "definitely not" meaning I will be overclocking, definitely not running stock speed. I agree with his post

Definitely not.

Thinking about I7-8700K and foregoing monitor for now to stay within budget. I can probably get a decent monitor for cheap used from my university since the graphics design department / major / whatever regularly upgrades their equipment. My research program will thank me for it, and since I'm running jobs that will take weeks a faster processor will greatly reduce wait time.

What is your guys opinion on how long the graphics cards will play for? Like how long until upgrade needed between 1060 vs 1070 vs 1080. I can justify a greater expense if they will last significantly longer before needing an upgrade, but I doubt the difference is great enough that it will justify the cost.

none of these builds will be cost efficient to buy in 2 months from now, cuz all the prices will change
so just post 1-2days prior to when you plan on purchasing
i would purchase the power supply right now though, it's a very good price for the unit.

if u dont care about looks, i can shave down costs and go for pure performance.
if you go with ryzen get a better GPU

it's not worth going SLI/crossfire in the future, you're better off buying the latest single gpu unit when the time comes.

Really don't care about looks.

I can do 1750 if the performance / longevity warrants it

The extra cost here is definitely not going to take the performance up or make the build last longer.

You did ask for extra RAM. Here is w/o the extra RAM...

Here is w/o the HDD at all and more SSD...

Unless you plan on delidding the CPU, I would not count on air cooling where you live. Crucial makes good SSD's no doubt, but Samsung makes better ones.
Choice is yours ofc.

Your build is more expensive, and somehow worse than the one posted above that fits within my initial budget.

Turns out garbage posters in one forum are garbage on every forum. Who would have thought?

Why does where I live matter towards air/water cooling?

My friend just told me he's got an old gaming PC I can have. I plan on upgrading most everything, but at least saves me money on a PSU and case. It's not that old, but I'll have it on the 1st so I can see what else I can salvage. Really just hoping it runs DDR4 RAM and has decent cooling so I can save on that as well.

Glad I pulled the trigger when I did. Cheapest 1070 Ti on Newegg almost twice what I just paid for mine.
