A better chance of winning the silicon lottery and getting 200-300 extra mhz out of the 1800x's higher binning would be more worthwhile to me than having 20% more gpu torque over a card that would already do everything i want with room to spare (the 1070)

I've noticed that when the occasions come that I want more performance it's more to do with wanting more processor speed since it's never because I want more eye candy and grass/water effects in my video games, which are always only about the actual game play for me anyway.

I'd actually prefer a broadwell-e build but there's too many sacrifices to make in other areas to fit that into a $1600 budget comfortably

The gpu has a 'OC Edition' from what ive read in reviews. The price differnce between that one and the OC is big?

And is his sufficient cooling? Thanks!

/e remember, if the extra 150-200 on top of 1600 helps alot, go for it.

Oc Edition means nothing.

Cpu doesn't really need a cooler they stay really cool with the stock one which is quite good (i have this cpu)

I think he meant the asus strix's cooling, the answer is probably, but the bigger factor in OCing your gpu is going to be rolling the dice on ASIC quality. No real way to know til you fire up GPU-Z

i didnt exactly win big with mine...

Have a good 1440 already.

Any other builds out there or no?

Basically when you're shopping for a GPU all you really need to do is make sure you're getting good memory (don't let them give you that micron shit) and cooling, exactly how well it overclocks compared to other cards from other manufacturers is not something you can determine while shopping. It's a complete dice roll. It's possible for someone else's $100 less PNY card with worse cooling gets higher clocks than your MSI Gamer OC edition ultra gamer x card. Not terribly likely, but possible.

Of course generally having better cooling helps. Samsung memory is also really nice to have since Micron is unstable and shits itself if you crank up the mem clock even a little above stock.

edit: im talking about vram when i refer to memory. Many gpu manufacturers switched to using Micron recently thinking no one would notice since Samsung had a shortage and until now were the only ones providing the kind of silicon that had the quality required to run at the speeds gpu's demand it to. Turns out they still basically are.
