I wipe free space with CCleaner then shrink the partition.
Should be good to move to something like a 250gb most likely
Defrag and wipe free space again ofc.

If the laptop has a hidden recovery partition, that will prevent the shrinking of the partition.
The only way to prevent that is wipe out the recovery partition.

it won't prevent shrinking of a disk.
IDK where you get these notions from but I've never had issues shrinking a drive with a recovery partition.

Well I have. The software just throws up an error when you try to do that.

THAT'S where I get "these notions".

/e I've found ways to remove the recovery partition and then shrink the rest. But I have found no software that will do it, with the recovery partition intact.

When I say recovery partition, I mean Factory Restore partition.

I've used them all. The hidden Factory Restore partitions are immovable.
They can be deleted though.

I don't have to do shit,
Every time the community shows you anything that contridicts your statements its met with nothing but bullshit.
Its not a credible source, they have to say that or else *blah blah blah, sorry but I'm not going down that rabbit hole again.
