I would definately recommend a modern Nvidia card since you're planning on recording your own gameplay, Shadowplay is the perfect utility for that and is free. All of the encoding is done on a dedicated encoder on the GPU and should have little to no effect on your FPS.

amd has it too

From what I've read and seen VCE has worse quality than NVENC on the same settings and at least used to have way more impact on GPU utilization (like Shadowplay 1% vs VCE capture 10%). If those have changed in the past 5 months or with the biggest RX cards, feel free to correct me.

Shadowplay also comes with other godly features, such as capturing the past 5min on-demand, where as Raptr is literally unusable, leaving you to use OBS/whichever third party program you choose to use.

Hi,
Looking to replace this card, evga gtx580.

Take this post with a grain of salt as your entire config will have weight on how your performance improves and this is more of a direct comparison to your GTX 580.
Please note all prices are as of the time of this post and do not include rebates, were used assuming you are purchasing from the US with USD, and all prices were taken from PCPartPicker.

GPU = Price | Performance Increase | Dollar to Percent Ratio
GTX 1050 ti = $135 | 18% | 7.5:1
RX 470 = $170 | 85% | 2:1
RX 480 = $180 | 111% | 1.62:1
GTX 1060 3gb = $195 | 109% | 1.79:1
GTX 1060 6gb = $245 | 120% | 2.04:1
GTX 1070 = $380 | 209% | 1.82:1

Just using these numbers as a comparison, your best bang for buck upgrade will be on the RX 480, followed then by the GTX 1060 3B and then the GTX 1070.

Like I said, take it with a grain of salt but if I were upgrading from your GTX 580, I'd go with the RX 480.

Are you comparing to amds newest relive shit?

Have you looked up recent benches/teviews with relive or newer drivers?

Nope, haven't looked at Relive. AMD's shit was so shit there was no point to even look at them.

Now, inspired by you, I ended up googling ReLive. Seems like they've finally caught up, thank god for that.

@OP: I retract my suggestion to get a modern Nvidia card. All of the AMD RX 400 series cards should be just fine for recording.

i'm surprised with their driver/software team they are stepping up their game big time,

did you see their dx11 increases? they are already pretty much owning dx12 atm in same price brackets but if their dx11 improves another 15% and next gen cards are in line with nvidia's pascal we might actually see some good competition

This is a great deal.

In terms of frames/dollar I don't think a better deal can really be found haha.
