I built this computer a couple years ago not sure if that is still good enough

You should be able to do about 4.2GHz on that cooler.
Download Aida64 and stress the CPU. let us know the temps.

Could be free performance

You made a pretty nice computer. Everything but the GPU is considered very viable.
By the looks of it, you shouldn't upgrade your CPU/motherboard for another 4years, if it doesn't break ofc.

Ok so I did the stress test and my hottest core averaged 52c. Granted I have not cleaned out my case in far far too long so I could potentially even get better.

Thank you for your help guys. I'll be getting a 1070, would getting 2133 ram be much better than just getting 8 more gigs of what I already have? I'll look into a new monitor also, which brands do you guys like for monitors?

You can easily overclock it for some free performance!
Just hold it about 70-75c

Thats the big question. You should factor MSI in as well.
They all have some amazing coolers.

Gigabyte G1

MSI twin frozr

Asus Strix

EVGA ACX

Personally If i had to pick up one myself right now. I would lean towards the Asus Strix

ugh as for monitor there is another big question.
What you would prefer 60hz IPS vs 144hz TN. (144hz IPS is quite expensive currently)

I can recommend these, all after your budget and needs
