Slots 1 & 3 are one channel, Slots 2 & 4 are the other channel. If the RAM works in one channel but not the other... channel, then the RAM is good.

When you try the different channels, move both sticks at the same time. If w/e you put in slot 4 doesn't work, then you have a bad RAM....SLOT, on the motherboard.

Actually, Slots 1&2 are the first channel, 2&3 are the second.

If it was how you described, The ram would be in Single channel mode.

Well, technically that's true. I shouldn't have said: "Slots 1 & 3 are one channel, Slots 2 & 4 are the other channel".

I should have said: "Slots 1 & 3 are one dual channel arrangement, Slots 2 & 4 are the other dual channel arrangement. And 4 RAM sticks in 4 slots, are the other dual channel arrangement.

Just like the pic in your 1st topic about this...

Good look, Lee.

/e @OP. Still, if both RAM sticks work in one dual channel arrangement, but not in the other, then you have a bad RAM slot on the motherboard.

If it's really broken, and not just a speck of dust in there, a hair, or maybe a "loose" RAM slot...I would get it fixed.
I would RMA the board.

/e The motherboard I had before my current one had a loose RAM slot. It worked, but didn't seem to be as tight as the other three.

Depends on you.
If you're never going to use 4 slots of ram, comfortable with the fact u have a faulty ram slot that you won't use, there's no need to rma. Using 2 sticks is where it's at anyways.

If you're planning to use all 4 slots for some other reason, or planning to resell mobo to upgrade in future, u shd rma

Like Secksii said...it's a personal choice.

Reasons to RMA: if one of the two slots you're using dies..you got no spares.
If you ever want 4 sticks of RAM...you won't be able to.
If you ever want to sell...oops.
If it's less than 30 days since purchase, and you got from Newegg, just call them, send it back and you will have a new one...ASAP. Other etailers MAY have similar options.

Reasons not to RMA: It'll take a week or two for the whole process.
They will probably repair the board, rather than replace it.

Yeah, you could wait, till the 3 years is almost up.

But ASUS will usually repair the board, rather than replace it.
