Is the 390 actually going to be SO far behind the new NVIDIA card? The problem is.. I sold my 750 which worked great. But I got what I paid for it.

So it's decide whether to wait or jump on the 390. Leaning towards the AMD card. Really don't think its worth the 3 months without any decent games.

IMO Nvidia has always been a bit more stable...all along. As for vid card companies...I always go with EVGA.

Well, the 390 and 970 are about equal in performance. It differs from game to game. The big difference is the VRAM. The 970 only has 3.5gb VRAM which might sound a lot, but is not enough to max out certain games. And it is definetly not getting better in the future, so i would say the 390 is the better buy.

I would only recommend the 970 if your building a mini-itx as the lower power consumption and heat output will be more important then occasual micro stuttering

point taken. But you can't deny that the 3.5GB VRAM does cause micro stuttering in recent games. Even on 1080p games like hitman allocate 3.8gb vram (tested with my r9 390).
I am kinda glad that i have the 390 since most user with a 970 had to use the medium texture details in hitman to make the game run smooth. I hardly think this will get any better in the next years.

Went over this before. 390 was done with outdated drivers. I can post the tweets from Anandtech that they don't revisit when updated drivers are released. Crimson boosted performance for the R9 3xx and higher cards.

Also at OP

Polaris and Pascal are coming and with high stacks of HBM2 they look promising. As far as Nvidia always being on top Ghot is 100% wrong. Before ATI was sold to AMD they actually had a good stake in the market

You talk a lot, but I see no respectable links backing up what you say. Just sayin...
