ya theirs 4, the other 2 would not be usable in any way i tried to align it, even if it was REALLY far away from the i/o backplate. Just the way it is i guess, the last 2 mounting points are on the bottom of the board, and so theres very little of the board that isnt supported, im pretty sure its fine i gave it a very good amt of thought before i turned everything on.

I still have alot of drivers to install, and alot of programs, but i decided to take a break cause id had enough for now, I also want to tweak windows and turn off all the crap, and make a backup of day 1 pc or whatever, with just the small malwarebytes/ccleaner/speccy/hwmonitor type software and the drivers.

good idea to do a restore point/image backup once its fully installed with drivers/ basic programs you want/settings you desire..

thats the plan, putting it all together took quite a bit of time with the unboxing and driving to staples to get an vga/dvi adapter, and some browsning to make sure i was doign it right.

doing it over again im sure i could bang the whole thing out in 30 minutes, took about another 30 mintutes to install windows though, and im spent Oo

at this point there is a huge list of things that need to be downloaded and updated and tweaked before i decide to back everything up, and then games and things after that so im sure theres another 4-5 hours of this mess, that was unavoidable anyway, i figure the difference between this and the prebuilt is just the 3 or so hours you spend putting it together and isntalling windows.

This whole process has been infuriating, soon as i started installing drivers it all hit the fan.

I installed the chipset and pci lan drivers off the msi h81m support site, but when i try to install the sound drivers, not only does it not install, but it gets rid of the sound i had, i just spend 2 hours trying to uninstall drivers, add legacy drivers and allt his crap in the device manager and im still nowhere, im literally 2 drivers into getting this up and running after a clean install of windows 7 and im already having to use system restore, does not bode well.

/e nice, after i use system restore back to the first driver, the mouse and keyboard stop working, even though they work in the bios, so i figure ill boot from the windows cd and see if that changes anything, the entire thing locks up and i have to hold the power button, then i plug them into different ports and they work the restore goes thru, this is such a mess though.

/e im just gonna use the drivers on the cd it came with and its installing .net 4 client or whatever so maybe that had something to do with it, i did figure id isntallt he drivers before windows updates etc, as it only makes sense i cant get on the internet without installing drivers to install windows updates

what OS are you running? if its windows 10.. gl.. there are still A LOT of missing drivers for win 10 that manufacturers are STILL scrambling to update/upgrade. this spreads accross all manufacturers/brands etc..

I got everything fixed late last night, to say this took along time would be a huge understatement. Though in fairness 90% of the holdup was one driver that refused to install unless windows was updated(which it didnt specify, and none of the old drivers would work without the update either), and the video card had to be unplugged, which it also didnt specify, this was compounded by the fact that every guide i read said to uninstall the current driver, which would remove the crappy windows driver that was giving me sound in the first place, then windows would try to reinstall its own driver but would fail for some reason, leading to more driver uninstalls, and driver uninstalls in add/remove progams as well. Finally after updating window, uninstalling all the sound drivers rebooting and using the cd that came with the mobo, it updated. So i really think there was some order things should have been updated in that I was not aware of, and it caused a few hours of frustration. There was also an issue where I would plug something into a usb, and the pc would run out of power and turn off, it did this twice, im not sure why though. 430w power supply, and the pc doesnt even use 230. It stopped doign this though and i havnt seen anything since, also the wall sockets here are wonky so it could have been that as its hard to know :(

Made 2 backups, with all the drivers and adblock and vital crap installed, one through windows backup and one through true image.

Just have to put league on there and get used to the new mouse/monitor/keyboard.

Also the case is still a mess, so i need to find a way to tie down some of the wires, and put the sides back on there lol.

Ah, see this is why people like me should not build pcs, everything is fine, but i will mull over something like a sound for 3 hours, ive spent easily an hour or two researching "coil whine", i disconnected my vga/dvi adapter, removed my video card, put a straw in my ear to try and identify the sound when finally i just gave up, but then i was on the other side of the case and realized it was this, some of you who are older will recognize this sound as when the pc is "working hard" lol...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpNxovn7yjs

thats the sound my harddrive makes, its annoying but for 25 bucks i can live with since i use a headset anyway. who knew right Oo? and all this time i thought my video card, or my psu, or maybe even my mobo was coil whining or capacitor squealing or whatever else....

between this and the driver mess(which someone should make a sticky guide for, because doing it in the proper order, with windows updates and .net framework crap, with the right things connected/disconnected would save people alot of time), has taken up 95% of the time it took to build it.

putting it together and completely installing windows probably only took 2 hours maybe 2 and half.... most of the programs and drivers installed without a hitch, same for the windows update, but that one sound driver takes 2 hours to figure out and fix, plus another hour fixing the things i changed to fix it in the first place, then 2 hours continually restarting the pc to figure out where a noise is coming from, and an hour or so backing things up, its draining for someone who isnt prepared.

wish i knew all this when i started Oo

troubleshooting and sourcing problems is an IT's job.

however.. anyone can build a computer, and youtube fixes for problems. it is just the time it takes to decern the issue, and correct it.

hope your rig is running fine now? do you have a partspicker link to your build? to view the case etc? might be a way to magyver fix the clunking noise of the hdd.

is it a new or used hdd thats clunking like that?

its new http://pcpartpicker.com/user/blunderwonder2/saved/#view=8ny6Mp

that the pcpartpicker, i think its just a cheap harddrive, itll get the job done tho i didnt realize it would be noisy, but afte rhearing that youtube clip im 99.9% certain thats what it is, its jsut hard to hear with your head stuck inside the case, and the coil whining alot more common issue so it comes up sooner in searches. To be honest im happy it is the harddrive, its annoying but its one of the cheaper things to replace if it really does bug me too much, and after i have all the backups in place if it breaks i can get a better one and wont have to go thru all this again. If it was the video card or the psu or the mobo itd be worse so im okwith it.

and as for the computer its running well, just not ready to replace this one until i get all the stuff off of here, and installed on to there and i wanted a break from it, plus it has vents int he top and im afraid crumbs and shit will get in there so i need a better way to place it near my desk. I like to fix problems even when they dont really affect me yet Oo so i put in my windows 7 cd to see what would happen and the mouse doesnt work after i boot from cd even though it worked the first time when installed windows lol. -unless i go into the bios and enable somethingsomething handoff and disable 3.0 ports etc etc, and its stuff like this that can waste hours of time, and it doesnt even matter, i just wanna know why so i can fix it i ever have to reinstall. Eventually ill get over all that crap and just start using it full time. As soon as i have some system images of a pristine new pc for me ill be ok, then i can start loading league and stuff and then ill put this old one in the closet hopefully for good, and set up the new one on my desk:P
