I found my win 7 key, my dad will let me borrow his disk, I think it works that way right?

Thank you for all the builds guys!

yes it will work, you will need a cd/dvd drive though.
you could always steal one from a system around the house or just buy an external/internal one for like $15

or like $5 on craigslist lol

also, the current system you own, you can probably use a lot of the parts in it which will help free up $$ for a better graphics card.
that's always an option to consider with low budget builds imo :)

if that's a route you would consider, you can download speccy here: http://www.piriform.com/speccy
and post a screenshot of it once it is installed and we can tell you what you can reuse ;)

I like saving money lol, but I do realize I need an upgrade. I think some of my parts are good for another round

reuse the optical drive
possibly reuse the HDD (i wouldn't, it's ancient and probably on its way out soon at some point in the near future and i personally don't think it's worth losing data down the line if you want to reuse, it is an option though)
junk the rest (sorry lol)

are you using a wired connection (ethernet) or wifi adapter? you can reuse the wifi adapter as well if that's how you're connected to the internet atm

Can you help me understand why the ram is bad, as well as cpu? I'm not judging, I really just don't know how to judge parts. Also, I have a Ethernet port on my mobo for internet.

I wouldn't say it's bad, it's bad now cause it's pretty old and pretty hot @ 60c lol
ram is bad because it's ddr2, not 3 or 4 and the speed is 800 mhz where cheap ones are 1600 mhz if ddr3

i don't doubt that this was an awesome system when you bought it

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Y6nwxr - total: $498.93
^^ this build linked above focused on "upgradability" so that instead of rebuilding an entire new system in a couple of years, you can just upgrade the ram + buy a new video card

a potential substitution is to drop the GPU and use the 280 (ew) and save up a little more money and get a gtx 960 or 970 as seen below
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xybdBm - total: $391.94
^^ this is probably the best option for you at this time i think unless you are experiencing artifacting

I am experiencing artifacting. It was slim at first, restored quickly, then I started getting blue screen, now I get artifacts in my blue screen.

I'm almost positive the video card is shot. 260 is damn near 7 years old. I think what I'm going to do first is get a new card, and ram. Unless you though cpu should get replaced before ram. You suggest the 970?

you will need to get a new video card then, booting into safemode disables the GPU drivers so you're basically using your computer with your 280 disabled and using onboard graphics.

minimum upgrade: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/7kMmbv
alternate if you want to use your current case: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3x33rH

you might be able to reuse your current case if that's something you want to do.
if you want nvidia, then yes I would get the 970

keep in mind that you can use this pc (if you add your current hard drive + cd/dvd drive + windows cd/key to the system) but it will be using intel 4600 graphics (which is supposedly ~15% worse than your 280)

also, what is your monitor's native resolution? 720p or 1080p or something in between?

I don't care about brand. I forgot to delete that. So you're saying my onboard graphics are 15% crappier than my 260?

Sorry, technical shit is a new language for me

1680x1050, right? Looking on the post on my specs

that's what the hardware websites say, it's probably a bit worse, iGPU's (the 4600 for example) aren't really meant for gaming.
and since you don't care about brand, get the 390 then

basically work up to a build like this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/PcGtMp
at minimum get this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/gVpF7P

like i said, you can reuse your case if you want, up to you.
in both builds you will be reusing your hard drive + dvd/cd drive
if you don't want to reuse your case, get the asrock h97 anniversary board

also, by diablo, did you mean diablo 2 or 3?
