The pentium is cheap? Thats part of its beauty. Ive made several budget builds with them. thrown in an R9 270 and it maxes almost everything at 1080p and gets great frames. Its able to run a mix of medium/high for the Witcher 3 and get good frame rates. :)

The alternative beauty to the pentium is that it uses the same socket as the i5...so you can just pick up an i5 if you're ready to upgrade!
Would get a z97 board though if you want to go that route, this way you wont have to consider buying a new mobo for the i5.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but why wouldn't the Z87 work for an i5? Being able to easily upgrade to a higher level intel later on would be ideal.

Would this mobo work? http://www.ncix.com/detail/asus-z97-e-atx-lga1150-ddr3-1a-103886-1382.htm

/e ohhh is it because the z87 can't support the 5th generation intel cpu's?

I see there are quite a few of them, the z97-E, z97-A, z97-C. What are the differences?

z97 board is going to be the best overclocker.
Id say that board is fine for a budget overclockers board.

paying $190 for z97-a board is not worth it
87a is better for OCing cos it actually has 8 vrm's vs 97a's 4vrm, and they're literally close/similar and not worth $90 difference.

go with something like this http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/3ztHFT
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/8qGt23 if u want the same case
though i'd still stick with 6300 if you plan on doing something else while gaming.

or jus go str8 to 4460

yeah dont max your budget on the mobo. either get a more affordable z97 or do what secksi says with the z87.

the i5 is too expensive to fit in your budget imo. Just not really worth it.
I like this build that secksii posted the most for our 3258 builds.

Otherwise i agree, stick with 6300 because that will be a great processor for gaming for quite awhile.

So In the end I had to go with the Z97 -A for a good price, the z87 needed a bios update and it couldn't be done through the USB flashhack method. Oh well, 97 has USB 3.1 and support for 5th Gen Intel processors.

Also managed to pick up an r7 370 for real cheap and went with the 750 psu rapture first recommended.

I'm excited to build this thing, thanks for all the help!

Get a smaller and cheaper case. Buy a full sized and larger video card. Buy cheaper ram. 96 bucks for 8gb 1600 is over priced. I can find you 16gb 2400 quad channel for 106. Buy a cpu cooler.

How can you guys say his build is fine?

Edit
Oh God all these builds are bad. Give me a budget and I'll make one later. You guys spend too much money in certain parts and not enough in others.

Use this as ram. http://m.newegg.com/Product/index?itemnumber=N82E16820231667

See if NCIX will price match this.

1. I wanted a sick case, watching the video for that case is what inspired me to go through with building my first PC
2. All I play is League of Legends, this entire PC is overkill
3. This setup is pretty futureproofed, and next time around when I feel like it, I can just spend full budget on just a CPU and GPU
4. The RAM you sent is on an american site, listed in american dollars. I payed 59.99 CAD for 8 gigs, Kingston HyperXFury, that's a pretty good deal as far as Canada goes. I don't do anything where I'd notice the difference in RAM speed.

CPU cooler coming soon, will be my next buy along with an HDD soon enough.
